CARL R. SACHS, 0F FREMONT, OHIO.
LIN'ING FOR WAGON-BODIES.
Application filed. October 4,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL R. SACHS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Linings for Wagon- Bodies; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in linings for wagon bodies, and has for its object to provide an article of this character which can be readily attached to the body, and when in place will prevent the escape of the grain.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lining of this character so constructed that the grain can be conveniently removed from the wagon without removing the lining.
It is a well known factthat the usually constructed wagon body will transport bulky material without loss, but when grain is placed in the wagon it will escape at places, and it is to overcome this objection that the present lining has been perfected.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a. wagon body.
Fig. 2 is a rear end view. with the end gate removed to better illustrate the invention.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the end of the lining in its position for removing the grain.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the lining.
Referring to the drawing 1 designates the Wagon body, said body having carried by its sides 2 rings 3, similar rings 4 being carried by the front 5 of the body, the purpose of which will appear later. The lining consists of a bottom 6, sides 7 and front and rear ends 8 and 9 respectively. The adjacent ends of the sides 7 and ends 8 are provided with eyelets 10 which are engaged by ropes Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing Wsshingtexnfi. G.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 12, 1918.
1916. Serial No. 123,702.
11, said ropes being adapted to engage the rings 3 upon the sides of the body and the rings 4 on the front 5, said ropes serving to hold the lining properly suspended. The upper edges of the sides 7 are provided with eyelets 13 which have connected thereto ropes 14 which are connected to the rings 3. For holding the bottom 6 at its forward end snugly in place there is carried thereby a plurality of clasps 6 detachably engageable with rings 8 permanently secured to the forward end of the wagon body.
The rear end 9 is provided with a top section 9 engageable over the upper edge of the rear end of the wagon body, as shown in Fig. 3, and, together with the adjacent ends of the sides 7, is provided with eyelets 15 which are engaged by the ropes 16, said ropes being secured to the adjacent rings 3 and the rings 17 which are carried by the ends of the sides of the body.
The end 9 has carried thereby a plurality of clasps 18 which are adapted to be engaged by the rings 19 carried by the flap 20, said flap serving to normally close the vent 21. The end 9 has carried therebya gusset 22 which permits the end to spread when the grain is being discharged through the vent 21. It will be of course understood that the end gate 23 will be in place when the lining is loaded, but can be readily removed so that the flap 20 can be released to discharge the grain.
What is claimed is In a lining of the character described, a
flexible walled body forming sides, ends and a bottom, one end being formed with a cutaway portion adjacent to the bottom to provide an extension on the latter and a foldable flap for closing said cutaway portion of the end, means for detachably fastening the extension in closing position relative to the cutaway portion, said end above the cutaway portion being provided with a gusset to give fullness tothe end, and eyelet members mounted .at intervals near the upper free edges of the sides and ends for the fastening of the same to a wagon body.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
CARL R. SACHS.
