lily invention relates to wiiulow sashes, and the object of my invention is to provide a window sash in which the glass may he removed and screens placed where the glass has been, and the sash may be taken out oi? the frame without the removal of the stop together with such other elements and coinhinations as are hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.
I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

it is often convenient to remove a sash from a window frame for the purpose of cleaning the glass, thus preventing the necessity of sitting or standing on the window sill on the outside of a house. It is also convenient to have a window sash from which the window glass may be easily removed and replaced by a. screen through which air may pass.

For the purpose of arranging for this pivoting of the strips. G, G, for causing them to be held constantly in close contact with the sash when the sash has been placed in the window frame, I place into the sash, A, at each end near each side thereof, a bracket, H, provided with a curved slot, h, and a spring. J. Each of the strips, G, has at each end a plate, K, carrying a depending lug. 7c, and an opening for a pivot screw, L. The plate is fastened to the strip by means of a pin passing through the opening, m, and the pivot, M, passes through the opening. L, the depending lug, 7a, reciprocating in the curved opening, 72 in the bracket, H. The spring, J, has one of its arms resting against the lug, 7c, in the bracket, H; the other arm resting; against the side of the bracket in such. position that when the strip, G, is moved as shown at the left of Fig. 2, in which position it is placed in order to enter the space between the stops in the window frame. the spring", J. will become contracted as is shown in Fig. 2.
In order to cause the window to be operated up and down easily, I place the rollers, N, N, on each side thereof and arrange for causing them to engage positively the side of the window frame. I accomplish this by mounting the roller, N, in a cradle, O, the
trunnions, a, on the roller fitting into the openings 0, 0, in the sides of the cradle. lhe cradle is placed in the strip, G, with the roller, N, protruding from an opening in said strip. The cradle, is held in the strip, 6 by means of the screws or pins, a, which pass through the openings, 8'', s", in. the cradle and are secured. to the strip, G, as shown at the left of Fig. 1. lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.. The combination of a window sash having a strip adapted. to engage the side thereof; a plate attached to said strip; a projecting lug; onsaid plate; a pivoted bolt passing through said plate and said sash; a bracket in. said sash provided with a curved slot into which said lug projects; and a spring in said bracket adapted to engage said log and the side of said bracket, arranged so that a rotary movement of the strip will tend to contract the spring.
2. The cmnbination of a Window sash haring a strip adapted to engage the side thereof; a plate attached to said strip; means for pivoting said plate to the sash; and a spring mounted in connection with said plate and said sash, arranged. so that av rotary movement of the strip will tend to contract the spring, substantially as described.
