HAT-PIN GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 5, 1918.
Application filed July 7, 1914. Serial No. 849,520.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, GEORGE L. KrLsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allison, in the county of Butler, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Pin Guards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in hatpin guards.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple device of this character which is ornamental in its nature and which can be quickly and easily engaged on the pointed end of a hatpin.
Other objects and .advantages will be apparent from the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a hatpin guard applied to a pin and made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the guard.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents a portion of a hatpin which is arranged to be engaged in my improved guard. The guard is preferably made of a block of wood 11 of the same design and size as the ornamental head of the pin, so that both ends of the pin will present the same appearance and not gisiiose the fact that one of them is a guard This block is approximately egg-shaped and has formed longitudinally therethrough a channel 12 the major portion of which is occupied by a rubber or cork filling 13. In the smaller end of the block the channel is reduced to a size approximately equal to or slightly greater than the diameter of the pin 10.
In the opposite end of the channel there is a filling of cement 14, and anchored in this cement is a jewel 15. spaced intervals around the larger girth of the block are formed sockets or recesses 16 in which are secured additional jewels 17 by means of the cement 18.
I do not limit my invention to the exact details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as herewith illustrated and described, but my invention may only be limited by a reasonable interpretation of the claim. 7
What is claimed is:
A hat pin guard comprising a body having a cylindrical passage formed longitudinally therethrough and terminating at one end in a reduced opening for the introduction of a hat pin, a compressible body fitted into the passage and seating against the shoulder provided by the reduced opening, a cement filler body introduced behind the compressible body, and an ornamental plug capping the rear end of the passage and concealing the cement, the latter securing the compressible body and the ornamental plug in position.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE L. KILSON.
Witnesses:
Mrs. Anon I-InmNGsoN, Mrs. CHAS. Knson.
