WILLIAM FERGUSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO THOMAS T. HOLME, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MATCH-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 180,995, dated August 15, 1876; application filed September 17,1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM FERGUSON, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Match-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to understand, make, and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, partly sectional.

This invention consists in the attachment to a gas-fixture or chandelier of a vessel or urn, constituting a match safe or holder, whereby the matches may be readily held and are. conveniently accessible.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a gas-fixture, bracket, or portion of a chandelier. B represents a vessel or urn, constituting a holder or safe for matches, lighters, &c., and adapted to be applied to the fixture A. The joint 0 of a gas-fixture or bracket is provided with what is known as knob D, as seen in Fig. 2.
In order to apply the vessel B to the fixture A, I remove the knob D, place the vessel A on the top of the joint 0, and secure said vessel thereto by passing the knob D through an opening in the bottom of said vessel, and screwing it into its previous position on the joint 0, whereby the vessel will be firmly held on the fixture.
It will be seen that the match-safe or holder is located in proximity to the plug of the fixture, and that both the safe and plug are conveniently accessible relatively to each other.
The piece a of rubber or other suitable elastic material may be interposed between the bottom of the holder and adjacent portion of the fixture to prevent fracture of the former, due to strain.
Having thus described'my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
