Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OZEF KUREK, citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guards for Scarf-Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a guard for scarfpins, and the primary object of my in vention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device that can be easily and quickly mounted upon a scarfpin to prevent the same from becoming accidentally displaced relatively to a scarf or necktie.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device that can be mounted upon the scarfpin to prevent the pin from being stolen or surreptitiously removed from a scarf or necktie.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the above type that is durable, easy to install and highly eflicient for the purposes for which it is intended.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the guard as applied to a scarfpin mounted in a portion of a scarf, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the guard.
A guard in accordance with this invention comprises a rod or rigid piece of wire 1 having one end thereof bent at right angles, as at 2 and provided with a sleeve 3 that is in a plane in parallelism with the rod 1. The opposite end of the rod 1 is bent to provide a horizontal hook 4 that is at right angles to the rod 1 and in longitudinal alinement with the bore 5 of the sleeve 3. The front side of the rod 1, intermediate the ends, is provided with a horizontal U-shaped clamping member 6, the object of which will presently appear.
The reference numeral 7 denotes a scarf or necktie in which is placed a scarfpin 8. After the pointed end of the pin has been inserted in the scarf 7, the sleeve 3 is placed upon the pin and the pin elevated within the sleeve whereby the pointed end thereof can again be inserted in the scarf, as at 9 and 10. A portion of the scarf is therefore at the rear side of the pin 8, and this portion of the scarf is clamped in engagement with the pin 8 by shifting the hook 4 into engagement with the pin, thereby placing the U-shaped clamping member 6 in engagement with the scarf to hold the scarf against the rear side of said pin.
It is thought that the utility of the guard will be apparent without further description, and while in the drawing there is illus trated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the mechanical construction thereof can be varied or changed without departing from the scope of the appended claim.
That I claim is A guard for scarfpins comprising a rigid rod adapted to extend parallel with the shank of a scarfpin, said rod having its lower end provided with a forwardly projecting eye for the passage of the shank of the pin, said rod having a forwardly projecting right angularly disposed upper end, a sleeve adapted to be mounted upon the shank of the pin and connected with said angular end of said rod, and a U-shaped clamping member projecting forwardly with respect to and connected with said rod approximately centrally thereof and constituting means for clamping a scarf in engagement with a pin.
