Description

J. A. SHOOK.
KNOCKDOWN AND PORTABLE FRAME AND HOISTl APPLICATION FILED MAYIG. I917.

KNOCKDOWN AND PORTABLE FRAME AND I-IOIST.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Jnssrn A. SHOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bronte, in the county of (Joke, State of Texas, have invented. a new and. a useful Knockdown andv Portable Frame and lzioist; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. V This invention relates to .a hoisting apparatus for hoisting various commodities.
'One of the objects of the invention is to provide a hoist including an improved combined knock down and portable frame, whereby the entire hoisting apparatus may be arranged in acomparatively small compass for easy and convenient transportation from one place to another.
A further object of the invention is to provide a top beam consisting of a plurality of parallel strips or bars suitably spaced by spacing blocks, the spacing blocks at the ends of the beam being so arranged as to afford sockets for the reception of the supporting legs.
In practical fields, tion may necessitate alterations, within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved hoisting apparatus constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view, showing the bars or strips of the beam suitably spaced by spacing blocks.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of one end of the beam, showing the sockets or openings for the reception of the extension of the supporting legs.
Fig. 4c is a detail perspective view of one pair of supporting legs showing the extensions thereof in position ready to enter the sockets or openings of the beam.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 designates an elongated beam which comprises a plurality of parallel bars, two outer bars 2, and an intermediate bar 3, which are held spaced by the spacing blocks or members 4 and 5 at the ends of said beam, and by the central spacing block 6, there being bolts 7 passing through said bars and the details of construc- Specific'ation of Letters Patent.

blocks, and provided with nuts 8 to hold and parts firmly and rigidly together.
The spacing blocks a and 5, respectively, are spa-cedfrom each other, in order to form the openings or sockets 9. Thebeam 1 is supported by two pairs of supporting legs 10 and 11. The legs of each pair are arranged to converge together upwardly, and are held so arranged by the transverse beams or bars12, 13 and 14:, vwhich are disposed transversely. Both pairs of legs are inclined toward each other, and the upper ends of said legs terminate in extensions 15, and where the extensions-mergeor extend from the legs, shoulders 16 transverse bars or'pieces 12 to 1 1 so brace or reinforce the legs as to prevent them from moving longitudinally. To further prevent such movement, intersecting bars or strips 17 are arranged to connect the legs. The legs of each pair are so disposed as to provide spaces 18 between the extensions 15 of the legs, whereby said extensions, when receivedin the sockets or openings 9, engage on both sides of the intermediate bar or strip of the beam, so that the beam will rest upon the shoulders 16 and the transverse bars 14, thereby rigidly supporting the beam 1. Arranged in the spaces 19 and 20 between the bars 2 and 3, and mounted upon the pin 21 are pulleys 22 and 23. Arranged in the space 20 and mounted upon the pin 24:, is a pulley 25. One end of a cable 26 is attached to an eye 27 of a bolt 28, which is carried by one of the bars 2 of said beam 1. A windlass 29 comprising a crank shaft 30 (which is mounted in bearings of the legs 11) and a winding drum 31 (which is carried on the shaft) is provided, and to the drum of which one end of a cable is attached. The cable 32 is wound partly on the drum and its other end has an eye 33. The cable 26 extends downwardly from the eye 27 and passes over the pulley 34 of the block 35 (which is provided with a coinmodity engaging hook 36) and upwardly over the pulley 22, then downwardly and under the other pulley 37 of said block. The cable 26 after passing under the pulley 37 extends upwardly and over the pulley 23, then over the pulley 25, whereby its hook 38 may engage the eye 33 of the cable 32. By this construction, of hoisting apparatus, various commodities may be raised by attaching them to the hook 336 and subsequ'ently imparting revoluble movement to are formed. The
