Description

- A. BAILLY,
TRAVELING CRANE. APPUCATION FILED OCT. 11.1921.
1432$78 Patented 00%111922 ATTURNEY Patented @ct. l7, i922.
ARMANI) BAILLY, or PARIS, FRANCE.
TRAVELING CRANE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, ARMANI) BAILLY, a Belgian subject and resident of Paris, France (post-office address 46 Quai Henri IV), have invented new and useful Improvements in Traveling Cranes, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in traveling cranes.
The object of the present invention is to arrange the truck of the portable crane in such a manner as to impart stability thereto when the crane is stopped for raising heavy loads, whilst shortening the length of the truck in order to increase the inward range of lifting.
The accompanying drawing shows by way of example a crane provided with the improvements forming the subject of the present invention.
Fig. 1, shows a side elevation of the crane.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
In these two figures the left half of the drawing shows the truck arrangement when the crane is held stationary for lifting heavy loads, and the right half of said drawing shows the arrangement of the truck when the crane is free to travel along the rails.
Figs. 3 and 4 are views in elevation of each of the ends of the crane.
These figures show clearly that the device consists in a set of four screw jacks combined with two removable cross-beams carrying the buffers and couplings.
In these drawings a indicates the frame of the truck, which, as usual is supported on wheels or wheeled bogies and carries the usual turntable surmounted by the rotary frame which is equipped with all the usual hoisting setting and like devices.
At or near the corners of the frame a, are four strong sockets d which serve for the connection, by means of pivots c, of four brackets or swinging arms f traversed by vertical screws 9 which serve to bear against the ground when the crane is stationary for lifting purposes.
The above-described system is well known but the present invention provides the following improvements The above-mentioned swinging arms 7" are provided at their extremities with connecting means it which serve when the crane is to be moved along the rails, to hold firmly the cross beams a carrying the couplings and bufiers.
It will thus-be seen that when the crane runs onthe rails, the swinging arms 7 are parallelto the rails and are connected two by two by a cross beam ti, and when the crane 'is stopped for lifting heavy loads, the swinging arms fare set at right angles to the rails, and by means of the screws '9 serve to bear against the ground and to give stability to the crane. Moreover the cross beams i having been removed to free the swing arms f and these arms 7 being no longer in line with the truck of the crane, an increase in the useful inward lifting span is obtained when the jib is in a position parallel to the rails.
For securing the arms 7 in the required position for providing stability or during movement of the crane, an accessory may be employed consisting of stays 7c connecting suitably situated points of attachment on the frame and arms The same stays arranged afterwards at Z may serve to reinforce the structure formed by the cross beamsz' in combination with the arms f.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a traveling crane, a truck, swinging arms pivoted about the corners of said truck, screw jacks carried by said swinging arms and removable transverse buffer beams interconnecting said swinging arms in pairs whilst said crane is in the traveling condition.
2. In a traveling crane a truck, swinging arms pivoted about the corners of said truck, screw jacks carried by said swinging arms, connecting means on the end of said arms and removable transverse buffer beams held by said connecting means interconnecting said swinging arms in pairs whilst said crane is in the traveling condition.
3. In a traveling crane, a truck, arms pivoted about the corners of said truck and swinging from a position parallel with said truck to a position at right angles thereto, screw acks carried by said swinging arms and removable transverse buffer beams interconnecting said swinging arms in pairs whilst said crane is in the traveling condi tion.
4,. In a traveling crane, a truck, arms pivoted about the corners of said truck and swinging from a position parallel with said truck to a position at right angles thereto,
screw jacks carried by said swinging arms, connecting means on the end of saidarms and removable transverse buffer beams held by said connecting means interconnectlng said swinging arms in pairs whilst said crane is in the traveling condition. I
5. In a traveling crane, a truck, swinging arms pivoted about the corners of said truck and swinging from a position parallel with said truck to a position at right angles thereto, screw jacks carried by said swinging arms, removable transverse buffer beams in terconnecting said swinging arms in pairs whilst said crane is in the traveling condition and removable stays connecting said armsand said truck in each said alternative position.
6. In a traveling crane, a truck, arms pivoted about the cornersvof said truck and swinging from a position parallel with said truck to a position at right angles thereto, screw jacks carried by said swinging arms, connecting means on the end of said arms, removable transverse buffer beams held by said connecting means interconnecting said swinging arms in pairs whilst said crane is in the traveling condition and removable stays connecting said arms and said truck in each said alternative position.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of a subscribing witness. I
