Be it known that I, ARTHUR ERNEST DAR- LASTON, of 56 Byrne road, Blakenhall. Wolverhampton, in the county of Staffordshire, England, a subject of the King of Great Britain, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Tables for Attachment to Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to tables designed for attachment to, and use upon, bedsteads and of the kind wherein the table is adjustably mounted upon side supporting arms pivotally attached to the side rails of the head of the bedstead and the present invention consists in so constructing and arranging the several parts thereof, that the table and supporting arms may be adjusted to a vertical position at the back of the head of the bedstead when not required for use so as to be practically entirely free of the bed and occupy but little space and in accordance with this invention I provide a simple and convenient form of bed table having an adjustable supporting device in attachment with the head of the bedstead which is so light of construction that even a one-armed individual can lower and adjust it in position.

And in order that my invention may be fully understood I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings,

Figure 1 of which is a side elevation view and Fig. 2 a plan of a bed table constructed in accordance with this invention, and as fitted to a bedstead.

Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6 are detail views to an enlarged scaleFigs. 3 and 4 illustrating respectively in side elevation and plan a. stop arrangement fitted to the device to prevent it inclining backward when the table is swung out of its position and not in use, and Figs. 5 and 6 show the means employed for slidably adjusting the table upon its supporting arms.

In carrying my invention into effect I provide brackets a on the uprights b of the bedstead head and to these brackets a I at c pivotally connect the arms cone upon each side of the bedstead.

The arms 0 are supported either in the horizontal position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 or they may be held at any required angle by the use of any suitable stopping arrangement. The said arms 0 may be separate members, as shown, or they may, if preferred, take the form of a frame.

Transverse sliding bars (Z are slidably mounted on the arms 0 aforesaid. The detail views, Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate a roller attachment 0 which may be made use of to reduce friction and facilitate the movement of the one member upon the other.

The bars cl aforesaid form the support for the table f or the like which I preferably provide with a writing slip or slope g hinged thereto at g and bedding in a recess formed on the surface of table when not in use.

The said table 7' in its turn, is slidably mounted on the bars d so as to be capable of transverse adjustment.

When not in use the device is folded up into a vertical plane parallel, and close, to the bedstead head by simply turning the arms 0 on their pivots a while the table f is pushed along the arms 0 (stop pins h being provided at the end of each arm 0 to prevent the table being slid off the said arms) sufficiently to allow the table to be passed over, and dropped behind, the bedstead head to the position shown in dotted lines, in Fig. 1.

A stop piece 2' is formed on the pivoted end of the arm 0 which engaging with the end of the bracket a when the arm 0 is upturned to the vertical prevents any further backward movement of the device.

What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
