FOUNTAIN-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented Feb. 12, 1918.
Application filed June 16, 1916, Serial No. 104,004.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES Gr. LAMB, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Brushes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fountain brushes and particularly to a brush of this type for use in applying a plastic polish.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of fountain brush of the type named wherein a containing tube will constitute a portion of the handle of the brush and to provide means for controlling the delivery of polish from the tube to the brush bristles.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a brush constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2, a plan view of same;
Fig. 3, a section on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4, a view similar to Fig. 3 showing the parts in position to permit feeding of the polish to the bristles or their equivalents.
Referring to the drawings the improved brush is shown as comprising a collapsible containing tube 10 which carries the polish to be applied to the brush. One end of this containing tube 10 carries a key 11 which may be rotated to eliect the gradual collapse of the tube in the usual and well known manner. The end of the tube remote from the key 11 is constructed of relatively rigid material and secured to this end are the pointed out Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the v tachably terminals of a U-shaped handle 12, the latter extending contiguous with the tube 10 and being disposed above the latter. The key 11 projects between the arms of the handle 12 and is guided by the latter. Projecting lat erally from the tube 10 at the end thereot remote from the key 11 is a nozzle 13 and secured around this nozzle in a suitable man nor are brush bristles 14. The tube 10 is provided with an opening 15 disposed in line with the nozzle 13 and rotatably engaged in this opening 15 is the stem 16 of a screw plug 17. This screw plug 17 is dethreaded in. the nozzle 13 and when unscrewed and detached from the nozzle it will be obvious that the collapse of the tube 10 will force the contents of the latter through the nozzle 13 and into the bristles 1 1. When sutficient material is supplied to the bristles the screw plug 17 is inserted in the nozzle 13 to close the latter and the operation of applying the polish through the medium of the brush is proceeded with.
lVhat is claimed is:
A fountain brush comprising a metallic tubular container having one end closed by a wall. thickened to rigidity and having the adjacent end portions of the side wall of the container correspondingly thickened to rigidity with the remainder of the container collapsible with its opposite end portion closed and provided with a winding key, the thickened end portion of the container having a lateral internally threaded tubular radiating extension from one side and a registering perforation in its opposite side, a flexible daubing member secured about the extension, a plug disposed in said perforation and having a threaded end portion disposed to engage and close the threaded interior of the extension and a U-shaped wire disposed parallel with the axis of the container and having the extremities of its side portions directed at right angles and secured against the thickened end wall.
In testimony whereof, I al'iix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
