FOUNTAIN SHAVING BRUSH.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 24, I914.

J Z Z5 mmllilllar I is Wm-mm @QMQV HENRY A. HEATH, OF URBANNA, AND JAMES E. GRAY, 01E SALUDA, VIRGINIA.
FOUNTAIN SHAVING-BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, HENRY A. HEATH and James E. GRAY, citizens of the United States, residing at Urbanna and Saluda, re-
5 spectivelg-in the county of Middlesex and State of irginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain Shaving-Brushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brushes and-particularly to shaving brushes and the primary object of the invention is to provide a shaving brush having improved means for storing a tube of shaving cream or like semiliquid or plastic material in the handle of the brush.
A furtherobject of the invention is to provide a brush of the character described so constructed that the shaving cream or like material stored in the handle may be fed into the head or bristles of the brush without handling the cream itself, but by the manipulation of the handle from the outside.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement and combination of the parts of a shaving brush of the character specified, which will be hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
In order that the construction and operation thereof may be readily comprehended, we will now proceed to fully describe our invention in connection with the accomtpanying drawings, which illustrate a pre embodiment thereof, in which drawings- Figure 1 represents in elevation a brush constructed in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view on a lane cutting centrally and longitudinally through the brush. Fig. 3 represents in perspective the plate or piston for pressing against the tube or other package of cream in order to feed it toward the head of the brush. Fig. 4 represents the interior tube of the brush for containing the tube or package of cream.
Like reference characters mark the same parts whenever they appear in a plurality of the figures of the drawmgs.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5 indicates the forward or front. end of the body of the brush which is preferably of a cylindrical form provided with a partition or diaphragm 6 in front of which is a cham- 5 her to receive the bristles 7, said diaphragm having a central opening 8 from which exerred tends a tube 9 into the bristles, said tube bemg provlded with an enlarged portion 10 threaded to receive the threaded end of a collapsible tube of cream or the like, such tube affording free passage of the cream through the diaphragm and the inclosed ends of the bristles, into the free, or proecting portions of the bristles.
A chamber 11 is provided in the part 5, inside of 'the diaphragm, the sides of which chamber are threaded at 12 to receive the threaded end 13 of an inner tube or 14, the outer end 15 of said inner tube being provided with a knurled head 16 to facilitate the turning of the tube;
The tube 14 is slotted longitudinally as at 17, said slots being of proper outline and posltion to receive side wings 18, of a plate or piston 20 fitted to slide longitudinally in the tube, said wings being threaded, as at 21, on the outer surfaces and projecting slightly beyond the periphery of the tube to engage interior threads 22 extending from end to end of an outer tube 23 fitted to rotate on the tube 14 and held in position longitudinally on said tube 14 by the end 5 and the knurled or handle end of the tube 14.
With the parts in their positions for use and the head of an ordinary collapsible tube 19 of cream, or the like, held in the enlarged threaded portion 10 of the tube 9, and the body of said collapsible tube inclosed in the inner tube with its opposite end resting ,on the plate or piston 20, the outertube may be grasped in one hand, (preferably the left hand) and the knurled head 16 turned with the other hand. This will carry the inner tube around in the outer tube, and the engagement of the wings 18 and 19 with the threads 22 of the outer tube will cause the piston or plate 20 to advance toward the bristles or head of the brush, and any desired quantity of the contents of the collapsible tube may thus be squeezed out and through the tube 9 into the bristles of the brush, the amount being dependent upon the extent of the turning of the inner tube.
We have particularly and specifically described the construction, location, and operation of the several parts comprised in the invention, but it will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention most nearly appertains, that slight changes and variations may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
body I Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A brush of the character described com prising a cylindrical forward end, bristles in said end, an inner tube communicating through the end with the bristles, a piston in the inner tube, and means, outside of the inner tube and fixed against longitudinal movement, for propelling the piston in the lit inner tube to force its contents into the bristles.
2. brush of the character described comprising a cylindrical forward end, bristles In said end, an inner tube communicating through the end with the bristles, a piston in the inner tube, and a rotatable tube, out side of the inner tube and fixed against len- 20 g-itudinal movement, for propelling the piston in the inner tube to force its contents into the bristles.
3. A brush of the character described comprising a cylindrical forward end, bristles tube and fixed against longitudinal movement, saidgutefiulahafviggg interior threads engagmg et ea 0 e wmgs. I
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
