Be it known that I, JULIUs P. SPIns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specification.

This'invention relates to a package tie and the principal object of the invention is to provide a fastening element adapted to receive the binding cord for a package whereby the cord will be securely held to the package without the expedient of tying knots in the binding cord.

Anoth er object of the invention is the provision of a package tie having one end curved to provide rocker whereby the device may be tilted for permitting easy insertion of the binding cord when the package is being tied.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a package tie which consists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected.

For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred form of my invention, in which;

trated the preferred form of my invention, and in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the device comprises the shank 1 of comparatively narrow width. It will be noted that the device is constructed from a single piece of material bent and cut into the proper configuration. One end of the shank 1 is enlarged to provide the ears 2 and 3 and this end of the device is curved thereby providing a rocker 4 the ends of which form the ears 2 and 3. hook 5, curved to extend slightly beyond the plane of the shank 1 is provided for receiving the cord during the tying operation. From the opposite edge of this end of the shank 1 a clip 6 is formed and comprises the curved arm 7 which provides a loop 8. The end of the arm 7 carries a finger 9 extending inwardly toward the loop 8 thereby providing a notch 10 at the point where the finger 9 joins the end of the arm 7. The arm 7 is curved as shown by Fig. 41- of the drawing so that the outside curve 11 of the arm will rest upon the package when the edge of the rocker a is also rested thereon. It will be noticed therefore that these two points, namely the central portion of the curve of the rocker 4. and the outer curved edge of the curved arm 7, act as rests for the device when being applied to a binding cord.

In using the device, for attaching a binding cord to a package, the cord will be first knotted at one end and passed through an opening 12 provided in the central portion of the rocker 4. The cord will then be passed around the package lengthwise in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 1. After being passed around the package the cord will be passed under the clip and looped around the cord at the point at which it merges from the back of the clip as clearly shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. The cord will then be passed around the package crosswise, whereupon the operator will press upon the ear 2 causing the clip to rock on the rocker t and thus raise the clip 6 permitting the cord to pass through the space 13 between the finger 9'and the edge 'of the shank 1 and continued onwardly around the curved arm 7 and then diagonally across the end of the clip. The operator will then shift his finger to the ear 3 thereby tilting the rocker a so that the hook 5 will be raised and the cord may then be passed under and around the hook 5 and continued diagonally across the end of the shank 1 and across the previously formed diagonal portion of the cord. Again passing the cord through the space 13, after applying a pressure to the ear 2, the cord will be continued under and around the arm 7 and again passed through the space 13 and tightly pulled causing the cord to be tightly lodged in the notch 10. When the last bight of the cord is passed through the space 13 the same will snap over the end of the finger 9 thereby eifectively locking the cord in the notch 10 so that the cord will be prevented from loosening.

l. A package tie comprising a shank, a hook and a curved arm formed at one end of the shank and means carried by the opposite end for permitting a transverse tilting movement to be imparted to the shank for raising either the said hook or the said arm.

2. A package tie comprising a shank of comparatively narrow Width and having one end provided with a hook extended from one longitudinal edge thereof, a. curved arm extending from the opposite edge of the same end of the shank and beams for permitting a transverse tilting movement to be imparted to the shank for permitting either the said hook or the said arm to be lifted and raised one above the other.

A package tie comprising a shank, a hook formed at the end of the shank and curved to extend beyond the plane thereof, a curved arm extending from the opposite edge of the shank and curved oppositely to the said hook wh reby the outer edge of the curve will be disposed below the said iook when the shank lies in a horizontal plane, and a rocker element formed on the opposite end of the shank and adapted for transverse tilting movement for raising the said curved arm above the horizontal plane of the shank when a pressure is applied to one end of the said rocker element.

4. A package tie comprising a shank hav- 7 means for hooking and looping a cord to the opposite end of the shank.

5. A package tie comprising a shank having ears formed on one end thereof, and projecting laterally from the shank, the ears and the ends of the said shank being transversely curved to provide a rocker, the opposite end of the said shank having a hook formed thereon and curved to extend beyond the plane of the said shank, a clip projecting from the shank at a point opposite the said hook and including a curved arm, and a finger formed at the terminal of the said arm and providing a notch at the point of juncture of the finger with the said arm.

6. A package tie comprising a shank havin g ears formed on one end thereof, and projecting laterally from the shank the ears and the ends of the said shank being transversely curved to provide a rocker, the opposite end of the said shank having a hook formed thereon and curved to extend beyond the plane of the said shank, a clip projecting from the shank at a point opposite the said hook and including a curved arm, and a finger formed at the terminal of the said arm and providing a notch at the point of uncture of the finger with the said arm, the said curved arm forming a loop having the said finger extending inwardly thereof, the said arm being curved lengthwise Whereby the said hook may be tilted upwardly when the end of the said arm is depressed.
