Description

} F.-KATZ. GREASE RETAINER FOR HATS. APPLICATION HLED SEPT.24, 19H.
1,251,045B Patented 9%. 25,1291? I R 5 Mme/Mam framkmfiz,
3&4; Quito own FRANK KAT Z, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GREASE-RETAINER FOR HATS.
Application filed September 24, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK KA'rz, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at No. 46 Fort Washington Ave New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crease-Retainers for Hats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My present invention has relation to an improvement in soft felt hats of the kind which is longitudinally creased at the top, and the object of the invention is to supply a hat of this kind which can be worn either with a deep crease securely formed and maintained or with the two sides of the crown parted. By the use of my invention the sides of the crown can be instantly united to form the deep central crease, or may as easily be parted, and either operation can be performed without removing the hat from the head.
Figure l of the accompanying drawing shows the hat in elevation with the sides united, and Fig. 2 shows the same with parted sides.
The two sides of the crown are shown at 1 and 2, and in Fig. 1 they are united to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1917.
Serial No. 192,844.
form the deep crease 3, by bringing together the opposed faces of the crown sides. These faces are provided respectively with the two halves 4L and 5 of an ordinary glove fastener, and it is only necessary to pinch the sides together while on the head to close the fastener and secure the crown sides together to firmly maintain the crease. lVhen it is preferred to wear the hat as shown in Fig. 2, the glove fastener can be opened by a simple pull.
So far as I am aware, devices for securing the creases of soft hats have hitherto comprised separable springs or plates which worked from inside of the hat and required the hat to be removed from the head where a change was desired. The improvement involved in my invention is obvious.
In my claim, the term glove fastener is to be understood. as covering any equivalent device, wherein one member can be pressed into the other to make a fastening effective.
What I claim is A soft hat having two crown sides provided on their opposed faces with the two halves of a glove fastener so placed. as to meet and fasten when the crown sides are pinched together.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
FRANK KATZ.
