';[lie'p'articular shape of this button will perhaps best be understood from Fig. 2 whereln it will be seenthat the sides of the head portion 10 tapers inward slightly from the top to thebottoin, thus forming the head wider through its upper top portion than through the lower or shank portion. This narrowest portion of the button comes near the bottom and adjacent to the flange l1, and which flange is of a slightly larger di ameter than the upper head part of the button.

The plate A to which the button B is attached is first stamped to farm the blank shown in Figs. 1 and 2". and this blank in turn is operated upon to secure it the shank of the button as will be later described. The blank in question is preferably formed slightly oblong and is provided with oppositely located circular slots 12 and 13 t rough which the web; 1% is threaded for the attachment of: the button. to the webbing. A central hole 15 is also formed in this blank and as will be noted from Fig. 1, is slightly elongated, being longest in the direction of the length of the blank. 1n the assembling for the completion of the article the flange and shank portion of the rubberbutton areshoved through the central hole 15 of the plate and are adjusted to an upright position with respect to the plate, as shown in Fig. 3. The assembled parts are then secured together by a suitable machine and with a single operation upon the plate.
