IMPROVEMENT 'lN CHILDRENS CCRSETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,891, dated March 26, 1872.
SPEcIFrcATroN. To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HARRIET GODFREY EMERY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, and MAGARET (J. FULLER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ohilds Corset; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention consists in providing a childs corset with socket shoulder-straps, which are adapted, from their peculiar construction to retain their position under all circumstances and hold the corset in place. The details of construction will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents the figure of achild with the corset as worn when in use; and Figs. 2 and 3 represent back and front views of the garment detached.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
Heretofore, corsets for children have been supported on the shoulder by a simple strap,
which was exceedingly liable to get out of place by falling down or slipping up on the shoulder, and thus cause great discomfort to the wearer. Our improvement consists in providing corsets of otherwise ordinary construction for children, with a socket shoulder-strap made of any suitable flexible material, which is attached to or forms a part of the corset itself, and. holds it in place, and at the same time permits free movement of the body and arm without possibility of displacement.
A represents a childs corset, of ordinary construction, which is provided with the socket shoulderstrap a a, formed of a suitable piece of any proper material. This piece, it will be observed, is out in such form and attached in such manner as to form a socket on the linear, which clasps, as it were, the shoulder, and prevents the garment from being accidentally displaced. The piece a does not form in any respect a sleeve, but is designed simply to clasp the shoulder above and below its highest point, for the purpose of holding the garment in place.
Having thus fully described our invention, What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A corset, provided with socket shoulderstraps a a, as described.
This specification signed and witnessed this 21st day of June, 1870.
