RALPH S. HAMILTON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
- IMPROVEMENT INBRACELET FASTENINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,815, dated March 19, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, RALPH S. HAMILTON, of the city and county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Bracelet and fastening for the same and similar bands, of which the following is a specification, referring by letters to the accompanying drawing making part of the same, in
thus secured in amanner to enlarge or contract its diameter by means of a slide, or loop and a buckle, constructed as hereinafter described,
In said drawing, B is thestrip or band, which may be of metal or any suitable material, like shell, horn, India rubber, 850., the two ends of which, being of uniform width, lap
-one upon the other, and are confined in conforlnity with the general curvature by a slide or loop, a, generally of metal. To the end beneath is attached a buckle, G, of the usual form, but of which the tongue t is hinged to,
swing on the free end f of the buckle instead of on the fixed end g, as ordinarily arranged, so that the free end 01 of the tongue (being bent, as shown) may enter the holes 6 e, at suitable distances asunder, in the overlapping end of the band, and fasten and secure the two ends from being drawn apart, and at the same time provide for the enlargement or contraction of the size of the band to suit the wearer, or for the purpose of putting it on or off.
Besides its use for bracelets this buckle is well adapted to fasten other bands,-such as hair-bands, finger-rings, and the like, of some elastic material, in which the peculiar mode of hinging the tongue t to the free end is better adapted to enter a series of holes in one end of the band to fasten the same with the end it overlaps.
Having described my invention, I claim- The buckle G, made with a swinging tongue, t, hinged upon the free outer end of the frame, as described, and in combination with the band B and slide or loop n, as a new article of manufacture.
