BAG-FRAME FASTENER.
neraise.V
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HUGO TUECKMANTEL,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Irvington, in the county of Essex` and State of New Jersey, have inventedcertain new and useful improvementsl in lBag-lira'me Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the `following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which Vit apper- Vtains to 'make anduse the'same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form. a part ofthis specification.` l
This invention relates, generally, to im'- provements in frame-fasteners or retaining devices for holding the hinged sections of bag-frames or the like in their closed; relation; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to that class ofbagframe fasteners comprising a spring-contained casing mounted upon one of the rame-sections, and an oscillatorily disposed locking element controlled by the spring'for maintaining the retaining ears ofthe locking element in their vertically disposed engaging relation with the two frame-sections of the closed bag-frame, or for maintaining said ears in their angularly raised relation to permit the frame-sections to be brought into their opened relation.
The present invention has for its principal object to provide in connection with the shell or casing and the nlocking element of the device, a closing plate out of which the spring which engages the shank of the locking element is forced or struck up by means of suitable die, so as to dispense with the additional expense and labor in separately riveting the spring in place; and, the invention has for its further object to provide a novel means for securing the said springprovided closing` plate in its position within the said shell or casing, and also for securing the assembled parts upon a framesection.
Other objects of the present inventionnot at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed'description of the present invention.
`With the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel bag-frame fastener hereinafter set forth; and, the invention consists, furthermore, in the novel `Specification of Lettersatent, y Patented NQV, 20,v 191'?, Appiieaiion' mea september ia.,l lair/@serial ini. lwrist. i
part of the said specification.
The invention is 'illustrated in the accom-l panying drawings, in which Y Figure l' is aside elevation ofabag-fram fastener made according to ,and embodying the principles'- of Vvthe present invention@ showing the locking. ears thereof in,their locking Vrelation withthe closed frame-sec-l operative relation upon one ofthe frame- Asections of the bag-frame.l
, the. bag-frame fastener before the 'same is secured. in its arrangements andeombinations ofthe several parts which comprise the fastenenfall 'of which will bejmore fully, described in the "following 'specification andy 'then finally emv'- bodied in the `clauses of the claimv which are appended to and which form an essential i", y,
Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal' vertical section of the bag-frame fastener and the closed .frame-sections n represented in' Vsaid Fig. 1;; and Fig. iis a transverse vertical section, said section beingA taken en line '4r-4 in said Fig. i the 'arrowm' y i e Similar characters of reference areem- 'ployed in the said above describedviews, vto indicate corresponding parts.'-
Rt-:ferring'now'totheV said figures ofthe fdrawings, the reference-characters 1` and 2 indicate fragmentary portions 0f the vtwo hinged frame-sectionsof al bag-frame ofany suitable construction, one of said frame-sec- A tions, as 2, beingadapted to be closed within the other frame-section,in the usual and well-knownl manner. The frame-sections here shown are ofthe L-shaped cross-section, but it will vbe evident that the .bag-frame 'fastener is equally as well adapted to other y,constructions of bag-frames.
The reference-character 3 indicates va completebag-frame fastener embodying the principles of 'the presentinvention, the same comprising a main shell or casing which 'consists ofv a top 4, side-walls 51 and end ,walls 6all arrangedto provide achambered open-bottom ',element, substantially as shown.
v lThe inner end-portions of the said chambered shell or casing arevleft solid,f'as at 7 and 8, but said solid parts extend only-far enough so as to leave the recessed portions 9 and. 1Y0, Surrounded enlthree sides, each,
l, looking Vin thefdirection of Vio by the marginal edges of parts of the said side-walls 5 and the respective end-walls 6. The said solid portions 7 and 8 are each provided with rivet-posts, as 11 and 12, preferably integrally connected with said solidV portions, and arranged substantially as and is provided at its respective ends with perforations or holes 14: and 15. As shown in the several figures of the drawings, the respective end-portions of the said closing plate are disposed within the respective -recessed portions-9 and 10, with the respective rivet-postsv 11 and 12 extending into and through thelrespective perforations or holes 14 vand 15, the short rivet-posts 12 having their projecting ends-riveted over so as to provide heads 16, and whereby, as will be clearly evident, the said spring-provided closing plate 13 is securely fastened in its closing position over the open part of the main shell or casing of the device. AS shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings, the said closing plate 13 is formed with a longitudinally and inwardly extending springtongue 17, which is struck out of said plate by means of a suitable die, and is integrally Yconnected with said plate, as at 18. The main shell or casing is formed in its sidewalls 5 with the usual openings 19, in which are oscillatorily disposed the shank-portions 20 of the locking element which is provided with the usual locking ears 21 adapted to straddle the closed frame-sections in the usual manner.
Within the chambered portions of the said main shell or casing, and contiguous to the inner faces of the longitudinally extending side-walls 5, the said shank-portions 20 are preferably provided with annular shoulders, as 22, to prevent lateral displacement of the said locking element, see dotted outline in 'Figv 3 of the drawings, and intermediate of said "shoulders 22 the locking element has a main shank-portion 23 of triangular or other suitably' formed angular cross-section, with which the spring-tongue is in engagement, so as to maintain the said locking element Vand its locking ears 21 in their various positions, as will be clearly evident.
The various parts of the bag-frame fastener being thus properly assembled, the
rivet-posts 11 are passed through corre-` spondingly placed holes or perforations 24 in the frame-section 1, and the free ends of said posts riveted over, as at 25, for securing the device in its operative position upon the upper surface of said frame-section.
The operation of the device will be clearly i understood from the foregoing description and from an inspection of the drawings and need not, therefore, be further described.
