RUDOLPH N. JOHANSON, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
GARMENT-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Nov. 13, 1917.
Application filed January 4., 1917. Serial No. 140,549.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it lmown that I, RUDOLPH N. J OHAN- SON, a subject of Sweden, residing at South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Holders. of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a garment holder of novel construction, the object of which is to provide a simple and effective means applicable to engage mens trousers and shirts in a manner to prevent the shirt from working out or upward of the trousers, as occurs in bending over, reaching upwardly, and the like, and an untidy and wrinkled appearance of the shirt prevented.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive clip or holder for the use mentioned, and which may be easily and quickly applied and removed, and which does not require any permanent attachment to either the shirt or the trousers, so that the same may be readily changed and applied with each change of clothing.
The invention in the preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation showing parts of a shirt and trousers with the holder applied, the trouser flaps being shown open and unattached to the holder.
Fig. 2 is front elevation of the holder.
Fig. 3 is an edge view thereof.
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation thereof.
The holder comprises a strip of metal bentv or folded upon itself in a manner to provide approximately parallel and spaced arms 1 and 2, which arms are substantially equal in length, and which will relatively yield for a slight separation of the free ends thereof. The arm 1, which forms the rear side of the holder in use, is provided with a pair of inwardly directed gripping tongues 3, struck up from the body of the rear arm, and projected inwardly in substantial parallelism and in close proximity with the inner face of the arm 2, as plainly shown in Fig. 3. The gripping tongues having free ends and being of flexible metal, the same are adapted to yield if necessary in applying same to a garment, so that the tongues will be under a tension and apply a constrictive pressure when forced out of normal position by passing the holder over the edge of the placket or front opening of the shirt, as illustrated in Fig. l, thereby establishing a firm grip between the holder and the shirt.- The said gripping tongues are disposed longitudinally of the holder, and while two in number are shown as the preferred construction, it is evident that the number may be varied with equally good results, and without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The front or outer face of the arm 2, is provided with outwardly directed spurs 4, which are struck up from the body of the arm and provided with pointed ends as shown. After the holder is applied to the shirt as illustrated in Fig. 1, the front trouser opening is buttoned up, and the upper marginal edge or belt portion of the trousers on the inner side thereof is impaled on said spurs, and from which it follows that the shirt can not work out of the trousers, so as to bulge and become wrinkled, and otherwise present an untidy appearance. It will further be obvious that the holder, when applied as described and shown, will be entirely hidden, and, by its simple and effective means of attachment, may be readily and quickly removed or applied.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed is A garment holder comprising a flexible strip bent to form spaced and substantially parallel arms, a gripping tongue struck up from one of the arms and extending inwardly between said arms, the tongue being disposed longitudinally of the arms and its free end directed opposite with respect to the free ends of the arms, and impaling spurs formed on the other arm with their free ends extending outwardly at a slight angle and upwardly with respect to the outer surface of said arm.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RUDOLPH N. J OHANSON.
