BUTTOWFASTENERQ To all whom? it m sty concern; g
Be itknown thatI, Lnsrnn MIYoUNG, a
citizen of the United States, residing at garment and enable the button to be de tached if desired, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap and simple, which is strong and durable and by means of which a button may be readily secured on a garment or the like, without sewing and strongly held in place.
The invention consists in the construe-.
tion, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan of a button fastener constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention, and showing the same in use.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan of a slightly modified 7 form of my improved button fastener.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the same.
Fig. 5 is a plan of another modified form of my button fastener.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the same.
My improved button fastener consists essentially of a frame to lie against the inner side of a garment, fabric or the like, and around the eye of a button projected through an opening in the fabric, and the tongue extending across the frame and adapted to pass through the eye of the button.
In the form of my invention shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the frame and the tongue are integral and are constructed from a single piece of spring wire of suitable gage and length. The frame comprises a ring 1 having a radially projecting loop 2 on one side which provides an inwardly opening clears cific timrof Letters Patent.

One end of the wire which forms a ring? is doubled as at 6. The opposing portion of the wire is passed through and"coiled around the doubled portion fins at ,7 and the "terminal "portion of the wire forms the tongue 8 which extends across the frame and the free end of which after having been passed through the clearance notch 3 may be engaged and held in the catch notch 5. The tongue when the device is in use is passed through the eye 9 of the shank of a button, the button shank having been passed through a suitable opening punched or otherwise made in the garment or fabric on which the button is used and to prevent endwise movement of the tongue in the eye of the button. The tongue is formed at its center with an offset portion 11 as shown.
To detach the button it is only necessary to remove the free end of the tongue from the catch notch, to then pass the free end of the tongue through the clearance and toward the garment and to then withdraw the tongue from the eye of the button.
My improved button fastener is extremely simple in construction andenables a button to be securely fastened to a garment or *the like without injury to the garment and cially adapted for use in connection with a Q cloak or other like button 12 having a broad shank 13 provided with a transversed eye 14, the tongue 15 of the button fastener being in this instance straight from end to end and unprovided with the detent offset. In this form of the invention the frame and the tongue are integral and made from a single piece of wire, the frame being shown in said Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawing as comprising a ring 1 having the clearance notch 3 and the catch notch 5 In the form of my invention shown in Figs. 5 and 6 the frame comprises a flap sheet metal or other suitable ring 15' having a narrowed portion 16 at one side and provided at the opposite side with a transverse depression forming a catch notch 17, a clearance notch 18 being 011 the inner side of said ring and near the catch notch. The tongue 19 is made of spring wire of suitable messes length and gage, extends across the ring or frame 15 and i secured at one end thereto by coils 20 which pass around the reduced or narrowed portion 16. The free end of the tongue may be passed through the clearance notch and engaged and held by the catch notch, as will be understood.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention 1- would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts, without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Having thus described my invention, What I claim is A button fastener comprising a frame to lie against the inner side of a fabric and around the eye of the button, and a tongue having one end attached to one side of the frame, said tongue extending across the frame and being adapted to pass through the eye of the button and the frame being provided with a catch notch to secure and with a clearance notch to permit the re lease of the free end of the tongue. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
