To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, JOSEPH P. ZALESKI and STANIsLAw J. ZALESKI, citizens of the United States, residing in the .city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Furniture for Domestic Use, of which the followingis a specification.

Our invention relates to furniture for domestic use and consists of a combined sofa,

folding bed, and bureau.

The objects of our invention are: First to combine in a manner economical of space and material, a sofa, folding bed, and bureau. Second, to provide a sectional construction whereby the said piece of furniture may be disassembled and parts thereof folded together to facilitate transportation and third to provide the other details hereinafter set forth.

The rear frame shown in detail in Figs. 5 and 6 consists of the box like cross frame a which is hinged to and supported by the standards 0, 0. The cross frame n 1s so formed as to constitute a casing for the upper drawers 2? and by preference a mlrror g is mounted in at the front of said cross frame. The standards 0, 0, are held so as to rigidly support the rear frame by means of the braces r, 7*, which are pivotally connected to said standards at one extremity and at the other extremity are adapted to fit into sockets s, s, in the cross frame 07.. The standards 0 are so constructed as to rest firmly upon the floor and the manner of uniting the rear frame with the main frame of the device is as follows:

A bracket y is secured to each of the standards and is provided with a socket z for receiving the tongue 1 projecting from the bracket 2 on the main frame. A. tongue 3 is formed upon the bracket 9 which is in turn received within the socket 4 upon the bracket 2. The brackets 3 and 2 are further provided with abutting surfaces of sufiicient length to hold the two parts rigid when the said tongues are in position in their respective sockets. The bed portion m of the device consists of a frame work 5 hinged to the rear frame by means of pins (not shown) which project into and are supported bythe slotted brackets 6' upon the standards 0. Suitable upholstering 7 is 'set in the said frame 5 to form a 'back to the seat when the *bed is in a raised position. When the bed .-":is lowered so that the frame 5 rests upon the 'sideboxes b the upholstered portion 7 lies 2 underneath and exposes the mattress 8; said mattress is suitably secured to the said frame 5' and a guard 9 is placed near the back of 1 t herear frame to prevent the access of dust to the mattress from the rear. 2 The spring 10 is connected to a portion of the frame 5 and also to the lower portion of -'the main frame in such a manner as to tend to causesaid bed to assume a vertical positionthereby relieving the operator of much of the weight of the bed when the same is to be raised.

In operation when the device is in ordinary use, the seat d rests upon the center box a and the head-rests k, I: lie upon the side boxes I), while the bed m assumes an upright position as in Figs. 1 and 4. When, however, it is desired to make use of the bed, the latter is lowered upon its hinges, thereby permitting the mattress to assume a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 3. The center box a may be employed for storage, and access is bad thereto by raising the seat 03 in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1-. The bed is retained in an upright position by means of the arm rests k, k, which normally lie in front of the bed as shown in Fig. 4:.
