JOHN WILLIAM MYATT, OF TIPTON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR TO LEDGERS LIMITED, OF
TIPTON, STAFFORD COUNTY, ENGLAND.
LOOSE-LEAF BOOK OR BINDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct.r 23, .1917.
Application filed August 29, 1916. Serial No. 117,457.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN WILLIAM MYATT, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 37 Victoria road, Tipton, in the county of Stafford, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements Relating to Loose- Leaf Books or Binders, of which the following is a specication. y
This invention has for its object to provide a simple, eective and inexpensiveloose leaf book or binder and is applicable more especially, to note books, binders for loose catalogue sheets and the like.
The accompanying explanatory drawing shows a perspective view of a loose leaf note book constructed in accordance with this invention.
In carrying the invention into effect as shown, a pair of covers a provided with flexible portions o at their rear ends have a pair of holes formed through the said portions at a suitable distance from the top, bottom and rear edges. The covers are connected by a pair of rubber posts or connecting pieces c inserted through the holes and secured to the covers, The posts or cover connecting pieces are formed by a band or length of rubber which is passed through the holes and across the portions of the covers between the holes, the ends of the band being united or attached to one of the covers in any convenient manner. When in position the elastic posts or cover connecting pieces are stretched by an amount depending upon the original tension and the number of leaves Z between the covers.
The leaves are also formed with holes corresponding to those in the covers and are provided with slots e between the holes and their rear edges, the said holes and slots forming notches or openings which permit the leaves to be readily attached. tn or withdrawn from the rubber posts or cover connecting pieces. By the pressure of the covers produced by the posts-the leaves are are separated sufliciently against the tension of the posts to permit the required engagement or disengagement of the leaves with the posts. In this invention the posts are permanently attached to the covers and any leaf can be removed or an additional leaf inserted without disconnecting the posts from the other leaves.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In loose leaf books or binders provided with leaves having notched rear edges, the combination with a pair of covers, of an elastic band permanently attached to the covers and providing a pair of connecting pieces between the covers for engagement by the notches of the leaves, said band being also adapted to embrace a pair of opposite edges of the covers, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JOHN WILLIAM MYATT.
