APPLICATION LED MRI. 4, i915 RENEWED JULY 3" l9!!- 1,243, 567. Patented Oct. 16,1917.
REGINALD J. SPINDLER, OF ROSETOWN, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
ADJUSTABLE GAP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. i6, 1% *7;
Application filed March 4 1916, Serial No. 82,242. Renewed July 31, 1917, Serial No. 183,769.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REGINALD J. Srinnnnn, a subject of the King 01" Great Britain, re-
siding at Rosetown, in the Province of Saskatchewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Cups, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to cops, and more particularly to the class of adjustable cups. The primary object of the invention is the provision of a cap wherein the some is constructed so that it may be adjusted to fit any size head and when adjusted will not blow off in the strong wind, nor will itgive discomfort in any way to the wearer;
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a cop wherein it can be folded in any position and .zrried in the pocket, grip or havcrsnck, the cap being formed with a pliable peek or 'vizor which will not crack, thus making it readily foldcble and ideal. for traveling, hunting, motoring and all out of door sports.
A. further object of the invention is the provision of a cap of this character which is simple in construction, neut and attractive in appearance, readily and easily edjusted cnd'incxpensive in. manufacture.
Other objects will be in port obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will lob exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the upplication of which will be indicated in the claim hereunto app ended. I
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a cep, in
perspective, constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a. sectional plan view;
Fig. 3 is a. transverse sectional view from. the front to the back of. the cap; and
Fig. 413 a fragmentary side elevation showing the gusset extended.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding, parts throughout the several views oi the drawings.
Referring: to the drawings in detail, the cap comprises a body portiono formed with a crown 6, the some being preferably made from cloth or other suitable flexiblemate rial and shaped in cny usual or desired con-' figuration. At the front of the body portoned together.
. and at the some time to bind about the head tion 5 is provided a peak or vizor 7 wh is flexible so that the letter will not or when folded or subjected to severe use. Formed in the back of the body casement 8 forming a. channel which to notes at the point of inverted U-shcpcd 9 at rflicznet'ricellv opposite sides of the bod 5, the gaps being closed through the dium of gussets 10 which permit t 5 to be enlarged or decreased in sic:
Each gusset 10 is of considerably material than the body 5 of the cup to the buckling of said gusset, wi'iich render the cap uncomfortable to the channel formed bv the 12 having an elastic section 13. the st? being also trained lhrlmgh the loops 3 it the front of the body 5 and one endlmrtion of this strap is provis'led at; intervals; Y ilih buttonhol'cs 14, while the other end no]. ,..on carries buttons which are adapted for engagement in the buttonholes 14: so that the ends of the straw can be adjustcbly fuslt is of course to be undcrstood that the ends ofthe strap can be other- Wise ndj-ustubly fastened when deemed do; siruble. The elastic section 13 in the strap )2 permits the cap to be worn with comfort to prevent the blowing oil"? of the cap in strong wind. f
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawlogs, the construction and manner of use of the invention willbe readily understood and it more extended explanation has, therefore, been omitted.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: 4 I
A cup comprising a belly having gaps in opposite sides thereof. gussets'closingsuid gaps and being made from thinner material than the body, a casement formed at the back of the cap from the body thereof and opening at its ends through the gaps exteriorl v of the gussets, a strap loosely trained through the casement, with the ends thereof projected through the open ends of the latter without the body at the front of the same and having. an,e1astic section and I also provided. with means for the detachable connection of the same, and guide loops at 10 the front of the cup and loosely receiving the strap. y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
