Description

l. H. KLIN.
HOLDER FOR PAPER CUPS.
` APPLICATION FILED NOV. 20, 1916. 1,239,277, Patentedsept. 4,1917.'
UNITED sTATEs PATENT, oEEioE.
JOHN B. KLIN, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE GERMLESS :PAPER CUP COMPANY, OF DAYTON, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
HOLDER FOR PAPER CUPS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 4, 1917.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN R. KLIN, a citizen of the Lnited States, residing atDayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Paper Cups, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to holders for paper cups of the sanitary .kind now in general use at soda fountains and other soft drink dispensaries.
The object of the invention is to provide a. holder in which the paper cup maybe readiiy inserted without the necessityv of touching the cup with the hands and also one which will be simple in construction, economical in manufacture and eective in use.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical section of the holder and cup.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the apex end of the paper cup which the holder is designed to receive.
Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view of the holder.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a basehaving an upwardly extending neck 2, the upper exterior portion; of which is reduced slightly to receive a thimble portion 3 integrally formed with the upwardly extending and outwardly flaring main portion 4 of the holder. This portion 4 is in the nature of an inverted frustum of a cone, the cut-O apex portion of which has been replaced by the integrally formed thimble 3.
The neck 2 is formed with a screwthreaded interior 5, the lower portion of which is closed by a plug 6 threaded therein and the upper portion of which is ared outwardly as indicated at 7 so as to conform in inclination with the walls of the part 4.
In operation, the paper cups 8 which are of a shape to conform to the interior of .he
portion 4 of the holder, are placed in stacks in a suitablecontainerin the manner illustrated in my application Ser. No. 132,368, filed November 20, 1916, with the apexes of the cups extending upwardly. When it is desired to insert a cup into the holder, the holder is inverted and placed over the stack of cups, pressed firmly downward and given a few turns so .as to cause the screwthreads to engage `the apex of the outermost cup, after which the holder Amay be withdrawn with that cup firmly secured therein. 1n order to insure the proper engagement of the apex end of the cup with the screwthreads, the extreme point or apex of the cup is provided with a ller 9 of material such as paraiiin, which braces the walls of the cup at the apex end thereof and allows the screwthreads to impinge the same in a manner to firmly secure the apexof the cup within` the screwthreaded neck. After use theV cupfmay be readily disengaged from the holder by" giving the same a few turns and pulling the same bodily therefrom.
This holder is one especially intended for the long narrow cone-shaped cups which are intended especially for soda water and drinks of that character.
vWhen it is desired to clean the interior`of the holder, the plug 6 may be removed` so that access may be had to the extreme lower end of the cup portion 4, as well as the screwthreaded interior of the neck 2.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a holder for paper cups, a main por-- tion of Haring form, and non-elastic engaging surfaces at the extreme lower end thereof arranged to engage the extreme apex end of a conical paperv cup by a twisting action of said main portion. v
' 2. In a holder for paper cups, a main portion of Haring form, a base, a neck connecting said base and main portion, said neck 'being provided with non-elastic engaging surfaces arranged to engage the extreme lower end of a conical paper cup by a twisting action of said holder.
3. in a holder for paper cups, a main portion of flaring form, and screwthreads at the extreme lower end thereof to engage the apex end of a conicalpaper cup by a twisting action of said main portion.
4. In a holder for paper cups, a main portion oftiaring form, a base, and a neck connecting said base and .main portion, said neck being provided with a screwthreaded interior for the purpose of engaging the apex end of a conical paper cup by a twisting action of the holder,
'5 at the juncture of said base and aring por-V Wltnesses:
5. n a .holder for paper cups, a base, a n testimny whereof have hereunto set main portin 'of Haring form egitending up my hand this 14th day of November, 1916. from said base to form a support .for a JOH P I' I conical paper Cup, and sorewthreads formed l' XL N' tion to engage the apex end of said conical PERLE L.
