Description

1933- J. J. WILLMOTT HOLDER Original Filed April 15, 1932 R O T N E V m Patented Aug. 22, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOLDER John Joseph Willmott, Montclair, N. J., assignor to Louis Farber, Yonkers, N. Y.
5 Claims.
This invention relates to a holder.
An object of the invention is the production of an integral holder, by means of which a decanter, a glass, a bottle or various other objects can be detachably held.
A second object of the invention is the production of such a holder, by means of which objects which are self-sustaining can also be held in operative position in the holder.
A third object of the invention is the production of a single piece holder, by means of which an object can be detachably locked thereto and maintained in locked position in the direction of its longitudinal axis and with which the object may be, if desired, also detachably locked in lateral position.
In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 represents an elevation of an exemplification of the improved holder, having a decanter detachably seated therein;
Fig. 2 shows a section of the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 indicates a section as on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 shows a section of the holder as on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing a decanter is indicated to comprise the body portion 20 having a spherical shaped outer face, the spout 21, the bottom wall 22, the handle 23, and the outwardly extending locking ribs 24. v
The holder is in the form of an upwardly extending relatively rigid wall integral with the base and diverging outwardly, and here indicated as comprising the spherical shaped body or body portion 30 which is preferably divided into portions or quadrants 31 by outwardly extending locking depressions 32 having the outer faces 33. The upper edge 35 of each of said portions or quadrants has integral therewith the resilient locking grippers 36, which latter extend above the largest diameter in a horizontal plane of the body portion 30, and taper inwardly above said plane.
In each of the portions or quadrants 31 is preferably formed a triangular shaped opening 39 which forms with the edge 35 the band 40 for each portion or quadrant. Each of the locking grippers 36 is resilient to enable the latter to move into or out of locked position. The bottom of the holder which joins with the lower portion of each of the portions or quadrants 31 comprises the curved side wall 43 and the bottom wall 44, which is spaced above its annular portion 45.
In this instance the body portion 20 of the holder as on the decanter is seated within and detachably locked with the holder having the spherical body portion 30, the locking grippers 36 extending above the largest diameter in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the body portion 20 of the decanter. The grippers 36 hold the decanter and holder in longitudinal but readily detachable locked position.
It will be noted that the decanter can be easily snapped into locked position within the holder and that the holder is made of a single piece of metal. In the preferred form as shown, the co action of the ribs 24 and the depressions 32 hold the decanter and the holder in locked lateral position. The decanter can be easily separated from the holder, by grasping the holder at its bottom and the decanter at its handle 23 and pulling them apart.
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplification is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
I claim:
1. A holder comprising a horizontally extending supporting base having a rigid wall integral therewith and extending upwardly therefrom and diverging outwardly to form an enclosure open at the top, and resilient grippers disposed adjacent the upper edge of said wall and integral therewith and extending inwardly therefrom to engage an article placed in said enclosure and to detachably hold it therein.
2. In combination, a horizontally extending supporting base having a rigid wall extending upwardly therefrom and of hemi-spherical shape, a spherical-shaped object fitting within said wall, and resilient grippers at the upper portion of said wall and extending above the largest horizontal diameter of said wall to retain said spherical object within the wall.
3. In combination, a horizontally extending supporting base having a rigid wall integral therewith and extending upwardly therefrom and diverging outwardly to form an enclosure open at the top, an object disposed in said enclosure and engaging said wall, and resilient grippers adjacent the upper portion of said wall and extending above the largest horizontal diameter of said wall to retain said object within the wall.
4. In combination, a horizontally extending supporting base having a rigid wall integral therewith and extending upwardly therefrom to form an enclosure open at the top, a pitcher having the lower portion thereof disposed within said enclosure and having a handle above the upper edge of the wall, and resilient grippers adjacent said upper edge of the wall and engaging the pitcher to detachably hold it within the enclosure. 1
5. In a holder of the character described, the
5 combination or a spherical shaped body portion,
comprising quadrants each having an opening, a band integral'with each quadrant above the opening therein, a resilient locking gripper extending upwardly and inwardly from each of said bands, 0
