tending from the opening 5 at the apex to CUR'IIN, a the rounded run 4. The rim or margin 4 15 connected or may be left integral at the upper end of the slot. The base in the present mstance has a central opening 9 for To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID F. citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Dish-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
y invention is an improvement in samand has for its object to provide a holder of the character specified,
of paper adapted to contain 1ce cream, sundaes, or the like, so arranged that a sheet of paper out to the, proper shape may be inserted in the holder in such manner that no part of the contents of the dish will contact with the material of the holder, and wherein theholder is so arranged that every part thereof ma be easily cleansed after the used dish has heen removed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder with a dish in place, Fig. ed 2 is a vertical section, Fig. 3 is an enlarged section on the line 33 of Fi 2, Fi 4 is a top plan view of the hol er, an Fig. 5 is a reduced plan view of the blank from which the dish is formed.
The present embodiment of the invention comprises a holder or body 1 of conical sha e, a base 2 and a standard or support 3, or connecting the holder to the base.
The holder,
0 as shown at 10, to fit within the opening 9 of the base. The upperv face of the base at the opening bears against the shoulder 11, formed between the reduced portion and the body of the standard, and t c said opening 9 is preferably frusto-conical or tapering, being of greater diameter at the under ace of the base than at the upper. The reduced portion of the standard the opening 9, and the lower end at the rib as s The holder is designed to receive a cup or dish 14., formed from a sheet of aper bent to the proper form, the said sheet eing approximately circular but having a segment removed as indicated at 15. The segment is not cut straight on a chord of the circle, but a projection or tongue 16 is left at each end of the line of separation." From and the said holder is as shown, of shallow a ank so fo d, a oni di ay e formed, by creasing the blank on the lines 17, which holder. At the apex of the holder, an opening 5 is provided, and the standard 3 is connected to the outer surface of the holder, the said standard being tubular as shown, and the opening 5 of the holder opening into the hollow of the standard. The upper end of the standard is scalloped or notched 1n trefoil shape, forming thus three leaves 6, which are superposed on the outer surface of the holder proper and secured thereto in any suitable manner, as for in-. stance by soldering or brazing. The notches or scallops 7 are of such depth that they extend below the apex of the holder when the parts are secured together, forming thus three openings between the standard and the lower end or apex of the holder.
The holder is provided with a slot 8 exsuperposed upon each other, a perfect conical receiver or container results. When so formed, the dish is inserted in the holder by passing the triangular flap 19, formed by the above bending through the slot 18.
It will be noted from an inspection of Fig. 3, that at one side of the slot the material of the holder lies nearer the center of the holder than the material at the other side.
is arrangement permits the easy insertion of the end of the flap, and acts as a species of lock to hold the two portions of the flap 110 superposed closely upon each other. Preferably the flap is then bent backwardly upon the outer face of the holder as shown in Fig. 3, and the circular edge of the blank is bent downwardly over the rounded margin as shown at 20. When any ice cream or semiliquid substances are placed within the dish, they cannot touch the material of the holder proper at any point nor can the said substances escape by way of the flap 19 on account of the compression at the slot 8, and the fact that the cup is one continuous piece of material. By providing the opening 5 at the apex of the holder proper, the apex of the dish will extend through the said opening, thus permitting the outer surface of the dish to fit smoothly and closely against the inner surface'of the holder, to prevent tearing or breaking of the dish by a spoon or the like, in disposing of the contents. This opening and the openings at 7 permit thethorough cleansing of the holder. After the dish 14 has been used, it. is removed from the holder by Withdrawing the flap 19 from the slot and thrown away or otherwise disposed of, and the holder is cleansed in the usual manner. The water used in the cleaning may pass throughthe hollow standard, through the notches or scallops 7 and through the opening 5 of the holder proper, thus thoroughly removing every portion of the material. The bending of the flap 19 in the manner shown in Fig. 3 provides a lock for preventing accidental removal of the dish. This lock will hold the dish in place under ordinary circumstances, but will not interfere with the speedy removal of the dish when desired.
1. A device of the character specified, comprising a holder, abase and a standard for connecting the holder to the base, said holder being of conical form and arranged with its apex downward and having an opening at its apex and having its upper edge bent outwardly and downwardly to form a rounded margin and having a slot leading from the said rounded edge or margin to the opening at the apex, the material of the holder at one side of the slot being ofi'set laterally outward beyond the material at the other side,.'the standard having its upper end notched or recessed to form leaves engaging the outer face of the holder at the apex and secured thereto, said notches or recesses extending below the apex, and the base having a central opening for engagement by the standard, said holder being adapted to receive a conical dish of paper or the like.
2. A device of the character specified," comprising a holder, a base and a standard for connecting the holder to the base, said holder being of conical form and arranged with its apex downward and having an opening at its apex and having a slot leading from the upper edge to the opening at the apex, the material of the holder at one side of the slot being ofiset laterally outward beyond the material at the other side, the standard having its upper end notched or recessed longitudinally and being secured to the holder around the apex with the opening registering with the bore of the standard, the lower end of the standard being connected to the base, said holder being adapted to receive a conical dish of paper or the like having a radial flange passing through the slot. f
3. A device of the character specified, comprising a holder of conical form having an opening at its apex and a slot leading from the opening to near the large end of the holder, said holder being adapted to re ceive a conical dish of paper or the like having a radial flange passing through the slot, the material of the holder at one side of the slot being ofl'set laterally with respect to the material at the other side, a tubular standard connected to the holder at the apex, and a base to which the standard is connected.
A. A device of the character specified, comprising a holder of conical form having an opening at its apex and a slot leading from the opening to near the large end of the holder, said holder being adapted to receive a conical dish of paper or the like having a radial flange passing through the slot, the material of the holder at one side of the slot being ofiset laterally with respect to the material at the other side, and -a support for the holder.
5. A device of the character specified, comprising a holder of conical form having an opening at its apex and a slot leading from the opening to near the large end of the holder, said holder being adapted to receive a conical dish of paper or the like having a radial flange passing through the slot, and a' support for the holder.
