The-strainer vessel or container A. has a cylindrical body portion. 1, a reduced lower portion 2, and an'intermediate portion?) of invertedfrusto-conical shape connecting file e body portion 1 isprovided, near its upper end, with an inwardly projecting peripheral flange 1. A cover 5 fits snugly into the'upper end of vessel A and is provided with an outwardly projecting peripheral flange 6 which fits tightly against thefupper edge of the vessel. The top 7 ,of the cover is con nected to flange 6 by avertical peripheral wall 8 of such length as to bringthe under face of the top 7 of thecover within a short distance of the upper face of flange 4. This clip is provided at its center with a semi-circular recess 13 to fit about the nipple 14 threaded through the cover 5 at the center thereof. A collar 15 is slidably mounted on the nipple 1 1 and. isse- N cured in adjustment thereon by means of set screw.16. A pressure block-17 is loosely mounted about the nipple 14 above collar 15, and hasits ends turned upward. and op- .positely beveled, as at 18. By turning this block under the inner ends of the bailsthe beveled surfaces 18 are brought into engage ment with the under surfacesof the bails and act toforce the covert; downward, thus securing 1t firmly in position and effecting I tight closure between the cover and the upper end of the vessel A. The amount of pressure exerted by the block 17 can be varied by adjusting the collar 16, as will be evident, so that proper allowance may be.
made for any wear of the packing ring 9.
The lower reduced portion 2 ofvessel A 'is provided, near its lower end, with an inwardly projectingannular flange 19. Two
diametrlcally oppositeears 20 are secured to the lower portion 2 of the vessel and arebiarms of clamps 21 are pivoted to eccentric furcated to receive the vertical arms of angle levers 22 rockably mounted in recesses in the upper edges ofthe ears 20. The horizontal arms of the angle clamps 21 engage a circular wire frame 23which fits snuglyin the lower end ofthe portion 2 and has a wire gauze screen 24L secured thereon. A piece of felt 25 or othersuitable fibrous material of fine texture isplaced above the frame23, and
a packing ring 26 of cork, or other suitable material, is placed above the straining element 25 and below the flange 19. By suitably rotating the eccentric levers 22 the screen 24 is forced upward so as to eflect a tight closure between the felt 25 and the flange 19, thus making a liquid tight closure between the lower end of the vessel A and the strainer. the body of vessel or container A and provided with integral arms 27 adapted to be secured to a wall 28 or other suitable sup-' port.
A strap 27 is secured about -moved and a sutlicient I quantity of milk poured into the'conta'iner A so as to fill the same to Within a short distance of theflange 4: at the upper end thereof. The cover is then replaced and firmly secured in posi- "tion, a'fter which'the valve 31 is turned so as -toadmit air from tank 29 into the'upper end 'of the container, above the column of liquid therein. The air acts to force the milk through the strainer, composed of the felt piece' and thegauzefzl, so as to effectually strain the same. The gauze 2 f acts to support the felt, and the feltprevents all particlesof dirt or foreign matter from passing through with the'milk, thus insuring "a thorough and proper straining of themilk;
Bythis means the milk may be very quickly strained, and, at the same time, all small particles of dirt-are removed from it. After the straining has been completed,vthe cam levers 22 maybe turned up so astorelease the circular Wire frame 23, after which the felt may be quickly and easily removed for washe ing or. for'msertmg a new piece of felt.
There may'be slight changes made 111 the construction and disposition of the variousparts of the invention without departing fromthe fieldand scope of the same, and I intend to include all such variations as fall Withinthe appended claims,;in this application, in which a preferred form :only of the invention is disclosed. What I claim, is
' 1.5111 strainingmeans, a' receptacle having an annular flange adjacent its upper end, a straining medlum removably secured intheloWer end of sa d receptacle, a closure member fitting snugly into the upper end of the receptacle, said member being provided wlth an upwardly extending annular flange and an outwardly extending flange mtegral therewith, said flanges being adapted to fit into and about the upper portion of the receptacle so as to effect a tight closure therewith, a pair of oppositely disposed bails loosely secured to the receptacle and positioned to fit inward across the closure member, a clip connecting the said bails, a nipple threaded into the closure member at the centerthereof, and a pressure block rotatable about said nipple, said block having its end turned upward and oppositely beveled to form cam faces for'engagement with said bail so as to force the closure member downward tightly into the receptacle when said block is rotated in one direction about the nipple.
2. In straining means, a receptacle having an inner annular flange adjacent its upper end, a straining medium removably secured in the lower end of said receptacle, a closure member fitting snugly into the upper end of the receptacle, said member being providedwith an upwardly extending annular flange and an outwardly extending flange integral therewith, saidflanges being adapted to fit into and about the upper portion of the receptacle so as to effect a tight closure therewith, a pair of oppositely disposed bails loosely secured to the receptacle and positioned to fold inward across the closure member, a clip connecting the said bails, a nipple threaded into the closure member at the centerthereof, a pressure block rotatable about the said nipple, said block having its ends turned upward and oppositely beveled to form cam faces for engagement with said bails so as to force the closure member downward tightly into the receptacle when said block is rotated in one direction about the nipple, and means for adjusting the said pressure block vertically on said nipple.
