Description
C. M. HARRIS SHOE FASTENER- APPLICATION FILED APR.12, 1917.
Patented Aug. 7, 1917.
. INVENTOR C /za/zdas j fjfai ;&a 26
ATTORNEYS CHARLES MARSHALL HARRIS, OIF KINGMAN, ARIZONA.
SHOE-FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kingman, in the county of Mohave and State of Arizona, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in shoe fasteners and has for its object to provide a fastener of the character specified for securing the flaps of the shoe without the necessity of a lace where the fastening means will be concealed by the closing of the flap of the shoe.
In the drawings- Figure l is a perspective view of a. shoe provided with the improved fastening means and with the flaps closed.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the flaps open.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows adjacent to the line.
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the fastening means detached.
The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with a shoe 1, having the usual closing flaps 2 and 3, and the improved fastener comprises a pair of curved plates or bars 4 and 5 each of which is provided at one edge with openings and 7, respectively, for receiving a stitching 8 or the like to connect the bars to the flaps 0f 1 the shoe.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Au *7, 1915?.
Application filed April 12, 1917. Serial No. 161,445.
The bar 5 is rovided on its concave edge with a series of iooks 9, the said hooks being formed in the present instance by bending over lugs on to the face of the bar in spaced relation. These hooks are adapted to engage over the concave edge of the bar 5 in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 3 to secure the flap 3 to the flap 2.
The bar 4 is provided on its concave edge, near the connection of the flap 3 with the vamp of the shoe, with a notch 10, the said notch being adapted to engage the lowermost hook 9 to prevent longitudinal movement of the bars with respect to each other when they are fastened.
In use, when it is desired to fasten the shoe, the closing flap is turned over upon the flap 2, the bar 4 being engaged with the hooks 9. The notch 10 prevents the flaps moving upon each other, and the hooks 9 by their engagement with the bar 4 hold the flaps closed.
A single motion only is necessary to disengage the closing flaps of the shoe.
I claim In combination with a shoe having closing flaps, of means for connecting the flaps, said means comprising curved bars, one bar being secured to each flap, the bar on the inner flap being on the outer face thereof and the bar on the outer flap being on the inner face thereof, the first named bar having a series of hooks overlying the outer face of the bar in spaced relation and at the inner edge of the bar and adapted to engage the edge of the other bar, said other bar having a notch at its lower end for engagement by the adjacent hook to prevent longitudinal movement of the bars when they are ongaged with each other.
CHARLES MAR-SHALL HARRIS.
