DISPLAY-CARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. "Z, 1911?.
Application filed January 22, 1917. Serial No. 148,606.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROLLAND M. Brenna- STAFF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cards, of which the following, when taken in connection with the drawing accompanying and forming a part hereof, is a full and complete description. I
This invention relates to an advertlslng device designed to exhibit the whole or part line to form the sides of a triangle of which the substantially horizontal table on which it is placed will form the base, and to secure said sides in said relative position.
Further objects are to 'cut out or cut around a portion of the body of the side which is intended to form the back of display device obtained; so that such cut out portion will be and remain in the same planeas the part forming the front or display side of the de vice.
A further object is to so construct the device that the holding part, by means whereof the sides of the set up device are held in suitable relative position, will be obtained from the body of the part forming the back thereof, by cutting around the outline of the sides and one end of said latch and bending it out from said body on the remaining and attached end.
A further object is to provide said latch with locking means, obtained from the body of the latch, andadapted to maintain it in determined engagement, in case the device be overturned or otherwise misplaced.
Further objects are to obtain a device of the character recited, which is easily set up by one not particularly skilled in mechanics, as say a clerk or proprietor of a store, or warehouse; to obtain a device which .is taking in appearance; economically made; not liable to be injured when slipped line which is lettered F.
in quantities, or when mounted singly on a table for display.
A construction embodying this invention is illustrated in the drawing referred to, in which Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the blank properly cut (but not set up) to form the device.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the blank illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front view of the device set up for use and,
Fig. 4 is an end view thereof.
A reference character applied to designate a given part indicates said part throughout the several figures of the drawing wherever the same appears.
A indicates a sheet of card board, straw board, thick paper, or other suitable sheet material. B illustrates a cut through sheet A, as by a die, on the outline of so much of the object on said sheet which is to be displayed as a cut-out, (in the example illustrated being the head and shoulders of a woman) and which is obtained from the part, (b) of said sheet constituting the back of the set up card. C is a line which indicates the location of the bend or break which is made when the device is set up. This cut out portion of the object displayed is indicated by the reference letter D, and is designed to remain in the same plane as part Z; of said sheet A.
E represents a latch member which is cut out (on three sides thereof) from the body of part b of the sheet as indicated by the the free end of latch member E. G represents the line on which latch member E is bent out from the body of the sheet when the device is set up. H, H, represent recesses in the sides of latch member E. I represents a tongue in member E which is obtained by a cut through said member on the line lettered J. y' is the line on which tongue'l may be bent out from the body of said tongue.
K is an open beveled notch, or recess at the end L of part b of the sheet- A. Said part 6 forms the front and display side of said sheet when the device is set up. The narrow part or portion of notch K, which is positioned on the edge L of sheet A, is sufliciently wide to admit the insertion in said notch of the recessed part of latch e, e, are lugs at member- E and the widest part of the notch admits the remainder of said latch therein.
In setting up the device, sheet A is bent on line C, and latch member E is inserted in notch K, in the manner last above recited, and said latch member is then drawn back, in said notch, as far as the lug e, 6,
will permit. Tongue I is then forced out from latch E to come in contact, at its free end, with the back of the front of the bent up sheet. Latch member E is thereby locked in notch or recess K.
When set as above described the display card can be placed with the ends L, L thereof on any suitable table, in the position which is illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4;.
Where it is not desired to lock latch member E in notch K the tongue I is not required.
When thesheet A is made of material which is easily broken when bent, said sheet is reinforced by the flexible strips M and N, (or one thereof), which are adhesively joined to the back of said sheet.
A duplicate latch member E, and a duplicate notch K are at times out out from the body part b of the sheet on the opposite side of said part Z2 from the one which is illustrated.
I claim.
