usaran s'ra'rss afi BRAID-NDING-GARD LABEL.
Application filed September To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known thatl, CARLl J. R. AHBNKE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of VVeehaWlren, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in .Braid- Vinding-Card Labels, yof Which vthe following is a specification. A
This invention lrelates in general to cards upon which braid or similar articles of material are ivound, and more especially to a braid card label for indicating the number of the article wound upon the card, its color, size, and number of yards, together with the selling price thereof.
As noW used, braid cards have Written or printed directly thereon ivords indicating the number of the article, the color, size, and number of yards of material on the card. `When the material has been removed from the card, the card itself is retained so that the merchant may have means for learning vshat stock has become exhausted, and consequently what material is needed to supply the stock sold.
The cards noiv used are large in size relative to the material wound thereon, and where a quantity of cards are to be 1retained for reference they take up considerable room, and cannot be placed in the ordinary tiling cabinets.
T ie main purpose of this invention is to provide a braid card label .for the purpose herein described adapted to be securely attached to a braid card, and to be readily detached therefrom, in part, and conveniently filed, occupying but little space.
lith the foregoing and other objects in vieiv, hereinafter stated, the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically stated, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown a device embodying the structure of the invention in its preferred form, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications thereof may be resorted to Without departing` from the scope ofthe invention.
ln describing the invention in detail, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, Which form a part of this specification, wherein like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Fig. l is a view of the obverse side of a G, 1923. ASerial No. 661,143.
label for braid cards, detached from the card;
Fig. 2 is a plan of the reverse side of the label shown in'Fig. l; i
Fig. 3 isa plan of the label shown in Fig. l vattached in part to the front of the braid card and in part to' the back of the card; f
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan viewY of thecard and label shown in Fig. 3 with a section of the label removed;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the section removed from the label shown in Fig. 4; and Fig. 6 is a transverse section of the label and card taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 3.
As illustrated in the drawings, the braid card l is of ordinary construction, having the usual cut-away ends 2.
The label is divided by scoring lines 3 into a back section 4C, middle section 5, and front sectionv, the section 6 being preferably provided With a tab extension 7 for the purpose of applying thereto a trade-mark or emblem 8.
The label is provided with adhesive substance of any suitable kind on the back of sections l and 6, the intermediate section 5 being free from such adhesive material.
ln applying the label to a braid card, the
`adhesive substance on the back of section el is nioistened, and applied to the back of the card, and the adhesive material on the back of the section 6 is also moistened and applied to the front of the card, as shown in Figs. 3 and 6.
The central section 5 on its face is provided with suitable Words or symbols indicating the number of the article, the size, the color, and the number of yards o-n the card. Words indicating thatv the central section may be cut away from the front andbaek sections and used as a memorandum for reordering, may also be applied to one of the sections.
The Vcentral section 5 which is to be retained as a memorandum, is small relative to the card, and when detached from the card as shown in Fig. 5, the card may be thrown away and the small section of the label retained. V
From the foregoing description considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, mode of operation, manner of use, and the several advantages of the present invention Will be lclearly and fully understood.
It will be seen that by the use of the present invention., the necessity of retaining and accumulating a inass of bulky braid cards has been dispensed with, and that instead thereof a small section of the label,l containing all the desired information, occupying but little space, and adapted to be conven-y ientl57 arranged in a file cabinet, may be substituted therefor.
The size and arrangement of the different sections of the label relative to each other are not essential features of the invention,
' and may be modified if desired.
In the construction herein shown and described, the label is inade in three sections. While that is the preferred form, I do not desire to be limited! to such construction.
l/Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination With a braid Winding card comprising a fla-t member having cutaway ends for receiving braid and the like,
of a label comprising outer sections adhesively secured to the card, one of said sections being secured tol one side of the card and overlapping an edge thereof between the two cut-away ends, the other of said seetions being secured Wholly on the other side of the card between the cut-away portions at the end of the card, and a removable intermediate portion secured to the tivo outer sections of the label for bearing indicia indieating the contents on the card and positioned adjacent to the free edge thereof.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as rny invention, I have signed my naine hereunder.
CARL J. R. AHRNKE.
