Description
March 22, H V MARSH WINDOW DISPLAY SHEET Filed March 50. 1931 jramsvzfr a m w Patented Mar. 22, 1932 UNrriEn STATES.
HARRY V.'MARSH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS IVINDON' DISPLAY SHEET Application filed March 30, 1931. .Serial No. 526,179.
The present invention relates to a window strip sheet or the like, and has particularly to do with an advertising sheet which is adapted to be secured at its printed .face to a transparent surface by adhesive and'has at the margin thereof a plurality of printed figures which may be fastened upon the device to denote prices'or combinations of prices for the article or item advertised upon the 16 printed body of the strip or sheet.
In the field of merchandising, each or ganization disposing of goods at retail','has its own thoughts as to the manner in which a commodity should be sold to best advantage,
' 5 whether in a unit quantity, or in a plurality of units at a reduced price. Prices of goods fluctuate, and often have fluctuated anterior:
to the use of advertising material prepared to popularize the item;
It appears to be fundamental in the chain.
store systems and many other organizations to definitely advertise prices in association" with merchandise on display or to use pr ces in respect to any advertisement which may be used in connection with goods. Ifdisplays' are printed with prices imprinted thereon,
and there is a change in price, or the manner of quoting the price is unsatisfactoryto the retailer, then the display material becomes useless,or it must be mutilated to be employed. Mutilated signs are not business producers;
In the present device, awindow strip or sheet is provided with a plurality of printed numerals, a number of which are duplicated, so that irrespective of fluctuation in price, the retailer storekeeper may use a selected price or combination of prices and make the sign as to price current.
Vision of an improved sign of the character above described, in which there is a simplified arrangement of parts and an unique combination of elements for facilitating the fixing of the prices to be used and improved means for the attachment of the sign to a window or the like.
These objects, and such other objects as ,may hereinafter appear, are obtained by the 59 'novel construction, unique arrangement, and
The objects of the invention are the proimproved combination ofthe several elements which constitute the single embodiment of the invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whichf r i 1 Figure 1 is a plan view of a sign-as it is supplied by a merchandise producer;
Figure 2 is an elevationshowing the sign illustrated in Figure l, in use upon a windowwith prices made a part of the body of the sign; and v FigureS is a section on the line 33 of Figure 2; j I Like reference characters are used to designate similar parts in the drawings and in the description of the invention: hereinafter given. v n J Reference should be hadfirst to Figure 1.
.Asheetof thin paper, suitably prepared to receive color printing, comprises the strip or sign. Said sheet is designated by the numeral 10. The main body of the sheet extends from the margin 11 to theomargin'12 at the top and bottom, respectively, and is defined by linear parallel perforations 13 and 14 at the opposite vertical edges of the body.
Beyond and to the left in Figure l of the perforations 13 is a plurality of numerals 15, each numeral being separated one from an: other by parallel perforations 16. The row of numerals 15 ordinarily is arranged to reach from the top edge 11 to the bottom edge but this is not necessary. Y
d On the opposite or right hand side of thesign in Figure '1, beyond the line 14:, is a pl1r-' rality of Figures 17 Perforations 18, like perforations 16 at the left hand side of the figure, separate the individual numerals; I
Instead of such row of numerals 17 forming the edge section of-the sheet, a second The central portl on or body of the sign defined by the edges 11 and, 12 and the perfora;
Before wetting said patches of adhesive and applying the sign to a window 24, the prices in the sign are made up in a manner indicated in Figure 2. In order that this arrangement may be had, there is provided at any suitable -place upon the body of a sign, additional patches of adhesive. One of these patches 25 is separated from another patch by a printed word for designated 26. V The other patch of adhesive just mentioned is indicated by the numerals 2? and 28, the section 28 being an extension of the patch 27 and generally being smaller than area 27 Over the patch 2'5-may be attached any of the numerals indicated by the reference character 21, as for example, there is shown at tached in Figure 2, the numeral 2. Over the patch 27, there may be applied any two of the numerals 15 or 17, those shown being 7 and 0. Of course only one numeral 15 or 17' need be secured upon area 27. Over the patch 28, a cents abbreviation in the present instance is employed, said cents abbreviation being among the several characters indicated by the numeral 21.
The areaof the patches 25, 27 and 28 is such that they provide substantially complete bodily support for selected numerals 21 and '15 or 17. The patches are-of the same height as the numerals and do not extend therebeyond. By such an arrangement of the patches23, 25, 27 and-28, as is herein described and illus trated, there is no interference therebetween. Each serves a single function and serves such function independentlv of its association with the other patches; When the various characters herein described are employed at the bottom of a sign to indicate prices and quan tities, there remain four corner patches 23 of adhesive whereby the sign in its fabricated form may be attached to a window 24, prefhesive areas for effective fabrication and attachment.
Of course, the central body portion of the sign may assume many forms and shapes, and there may be man different arrangements thereof. The num er of numerals and characters, and their particular arrangement, shape or form are matters of selection.
The device which. is shown in the drawings is presented merely for illustration and not as limiting the character or scope of the invention. For example, the adhesive patches 23 may be differently placed as may also the patches 25, 27 and 28. The numerals and characters may be at the top or at the bottom or all about the sign as preferred.
I claim: 7
1. A window sheet or strip having printing upon its face and individually detachable numerals and characters at its edges, there being areas of adhesive on said face, certain of said areas being relatively small and being disposed at the corners of said face for attaching the sheet or strip to a transparent support, and other of said areas being of a size adapted to receive and be completely covered by selected numerals and characters taken from the edges of said sheet whereby the sheet when applied to a support will be secured only at its corners.
2. A window sheet or strip having printing upon the face of the main body thereof and individually detachable and separable numerals and characters of different heights upon extensions from said main body, there being a plurality of spaced apart areas of adhesive on the printed face of said body, each of said areas being individual and separated from each other area, one of said areas being adapted to receive and completely engage selected numerals and characters of different heights, another area being adapted to re ceiveand engage the whole of a single character, and the remainder of said areas being disposed to secure the corners of said body upon a selected transparent support.

erably upon the inside thereof so that the" front of the sign, that is, the advertising face andprice announcement may be visible from the street. After the sign is fabricated, all of the excess numerals .are torn away along the score lines 13 and 14 as. is perfectly manifest from an examination of Figure 2. i
A window sheet or strip is thus provided wherein there are four corner patches of adhesive'for firmly securing. the device tov a transparent surface but not extending over an excessive area of the window whereby readyremoval of the sign is prevented when it is no longer wanted. A sign as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 provides a minimum of ad-
