Description

A. C. KILLIUS. NEGATIVE HOLDER. APPLICATION mm MAY I6. 1916.
Patented Augx 1917:
Witnesses Inventor UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT G. KILLIUS, OF SPOKANE, W'ASHINGTON.
NEGATIVE-HOLDER.
Application filed May 16, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT C. KILLIUS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Negative-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention a-ppertains to photographic developing apparatus, and aims to provide a novel and improved holder for negatives while developing them.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein the figure is a perspective view of the negative holder.
The negative holder 21 is in the form of a rectangular frame, embodying a wire or rod bent to provide the upstanding parallel limbs 22 connected at their lower ends by an upwardly oii'set cross piece 23, which provides the downwardly projecting feet 24 at the ends of the cross piece and at the lower ends of the limbs 22. A pair of grooved guides 25 of U-shaped cross section have their bends soldered, welded or otherwise secured to the limbs 22 and are adapted to receive the edges of the film negatives, and the bar 26 is soldered, welded or otherwise secured upon the cross piece 23, and has its terminals secured within the lower ends of the guides 25. Attached to the opposite sides of the bar 26 between the ends thereof is a pair of upstanding bail-shaped member 27 adapted to receive the lower end of the negative therebetween, to hold it in place. A cross piece or strip 28 has its terminals soldered, welded or otherwise secured to certain flanges of the guides 25 adjacent the upper ends thereof and at one side of the holder. One of the limbs 22 has an upwardly projecting extension 29 providing a finger piece or hook to facilitate the bandling of the holders. The upper end of the negative is held in place against the cross Specification of Letters Patent.

piece 28 by means of a clip 30 pivoted to the cross piece 28 and provided at its free end with a bent back ear 31 to overlap that side of the cross piece 28 adjacent the guides 25, said clip 30 being disposed at the opposite side of said cross piece 28.
A film negative can be readily slid downwardly in the grooved guides the lower end of the film being received between the members 27 to hold it in place, and when the upper end of the negative is in over lapping relation with the cross piece 28, the clip or catch 30 can be swung downwardly so that the free end thereof straddles the cross piece 28 and upper end of the negative, to hold the negative against the cross piece. The negative is thus held by the holder or holder frame to prevent the negative from buckling or curling.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A negative holder comprising upright limbs and an upwardly offset cross piece connecting the lower ends thereof and providing feet at the ends of said cross piece,-
means carried by said cross piece for receiving and holding the lower end of a negative, and means carried by said limbs for receiving and holding the edges of the negative.
2. A negative holder comprising a wire element having upstanding limbs and an upwardly offset cross piece connecting the lower ends thereof and providing feet at the ends of said cross piece, grooved guides of U-shaped cross section having their bends secured to said limbs, a bar secured upon said cross piece and to the lower ends of said guides and having means for receiving and holding the lower end of a negative, said guides being adapted to receive the edges of the negative, a cross piece attached to the upper ends of said guides, and means for holding the upper end of the negative against the last mentioned cross piece.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT C. KILLIU S.
