JAMES F. CONNELLY AND BERNARD OONLAN, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENTlN.F. \ST ENllt31S FOUR SATCHELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,557, dated February 13, 1872.
Srncmrcnrroir. We, JAMES F. GONNELLY and BERNARD CONLAN, of the city of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in Making and Attaching the Swivel or Stud-Plate, technically termed the olive, to the tongue or straps of the fastenings of Satchels, TravelingBags, &c., of which the following is a specification.
The improvement consists in the utilization of metal hitherto Wasted.v in the formation of holes in swivel-plates, technically termed the olive, by adapting it to forming the fastening 0f the olive to the tongue or strap of Satchels swivel-hole. A corresponding aperture is punched through the strap d. The prepared blank is put thereto, the parts a b passing through and projecting beyond the back of the strap, the projections, on being turned down over the edge of the aperture, as shown in Figs. at and 5, efi'ectually secure the plate to the strap or flap of a satchel or traveling-bag in an expeditious and neat manner. The face is shown in Fig. 3. The plates can be attached to the satchel or bag in any part in the same manner.
What we claim and desire to secure is- The blank, olive-slitted as shown in Fig. 1, to form two lips, a b, which are bent outward and folded back in securing the olive to the strap or other part of the satchel, as illustrated in Fig. 5.
JAMES F. GONNELLY. BERNARD CONLAN.
Attest W. M. GOODING, EDWARD COLLYER.
