Application filed March 21, 1917.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MARY A. WnLLs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux Pass, in the county of Richland and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Hat, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a hat and the invention aims to provide novel means whereby, at once, a proper ventilation of the hat will be secured, and whereby pressure on parts of the circulatory system in the head of the wearer will be avoided.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a portion of a hat constructed in accordance with the present invention, parts being broken away;
Fig. 2 is a section taken approximately on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a section taken approximately 011 the line 33 of Fig. 1.
The h at forming the subject matter of this application includes a crown 1, and it may include a brim 2. The crown 1 has any de sired number of enlarged openings 3 therethrough, these openings 3 being located as desired around the crown of the hat. A trimming band 4 is arranged around the outside of the crown 1. The band a is provided with spaced openings 5 disposed opposite to the enlarged opening 3 in the crown 1. posed opposite to the enlarged opening 3 in the crown, and in coaxial relation to the openings 5 in the trimming band 4. A stiif foraminous strip 8, which may be made out of wire netting, is disposed between the sweat band 6 and the crown 1 and is offset inwardly as shown at 9 to form projections 10 in the sweat band 6 and to form an air chamber of which the opening 3 in the crown 1 constitutes a part.
The construction of the device is such that an adequate supply of air will be provided, the hat thus being thoroughly ventilated, and at the same time, owing to the presence of the projections 10, which may be located as desired, the circulatory system in the head of the wearer will be impeded to a minimum extent.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A hat including a crown having an enlarged opening therethrouglti; a trimming band around the outside of the crown and provided with perforations, a plurality of which are disposed opposite to the enlarged opening in the crown; a sweat band located. inside of the crown and provided with perforations, a plurality of which are disposed opposite to the enlarged opening in the crown and in coaxial relation to the said plurality of perforations in the trimming band; and a stifl, foraminous strip disposed between the sweat band and the crown and offset inwardly opposite to the opening in the crown and throughout the entire width of the opening in the crown to define a projection in the sweat band coextensive with the opening in the crown, and to form an air chamber of which the opening in the crown constitutes a part.
