Be it. known that I, EDWARD O. TINsLnY,
' a citizen of the United States, residing in Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Display-Containers, of whichthe followingis a specification.
. This invention relates generally to 'collapsible boxes, and more especially to knockdown boxes that may be flattened out for I provision of a knock-down box made of foldable material, such as'paper board and the;
like, which may be flattened out for the purquickly assembled for use the purposeof shipping a quantity of'such boxes empty, andfthat may be practically in- 'stantly assembled for use as a container.
The present invention contemplates the pose of shipping a quantity of the boxes empty, which, on the other hand, may be as a container for shipping-articles and which may be'furthermore soassembled as to aiford an advanrovision of a container especially adapted tioning from the subjoined tageous display container for advertising purposes and the like.
The invention further contemplates the to display advertising matter, to which end, among others, the container is provided with means for conveniently and advantageously carrying advertising matter, and with means for conveniently and advantageously posi-- the container to display its advertising matter. In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 8 inclusive, a knock-down container is formed from the two blanks A and B, illustratedin Figs. 4 and 5 respectively. The blank A comprises the enlarged rectangular portion 10 and the elongated strip 11' ex-' tending at right angles therefrom. The portion 10 is preferably provided with the six scorings or indented folding lines 12, 13, l4, 15, 16, and 17, running parallel with one with the-upper and lower edges 18 and 19 respectively-of the portion 11. The scorings 12 and 13 are continuations of the edges 18 and 19 respec-' tively. The scoring 12gdefines the display board support 20 formed between such scoring 12 and the adjacent parallel edge 21 of the portion 20 of 10.
The portion 11 is defined from the portion 10 by the scoring 22, which is in alinement with the elongated edge 23 of the portion 10, which edge 23 is parallel to the edge 24: on the other side of the portion 10 and perpendicular to the scorings 12 to 17 inclusive. The portion 11 is provided with the scorings 25, 26 and 27 all parallel to the scoring 22. The scoring 27 defines the anchoring flange 28 formed between the extreme edge 29 of the portion 11 and the scoring 27. The distance between the scorings 25 and 26 is'equal to'the distance between the scoring 22 and the edge 24 of the portion 10, thereby forming the two main longitudinal walls C and D of the collapsible box to be produced when the blanks are-assembled for the purpose; and the distance between the scorings 22 and 25 is equal to the distance between Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of i .Fig. 2

The reason for the just recited dimensions is as follows: When the collapsible box is assembled and closed,the portion between the scorings 15 and 17 will serve as the cover member H, the portion between the scorings 13 and 15 will rest up against the wall member C, and the portion between the scoring 17 and the adjacent parallel edge 31 of the portion 10 will serve as an anchoring flap to be disposed adjacent to the wall member D. The blank .B comprises the main recflange 34 is defined from the portion 32 by the scoring 37 in alinement with the elongated edge 38 of-the portion 32, which edge 38 is parallel to the edge 36. The portion 32 is provided with the scorings 39, 40
and 41 parallel with one another and per-- pendicular to the edges 36- and 38. The
scorings 40 and 41 are in alinement with" the end edges of the flanges 33 and 34, and with the scorings 35 and 37 define the floor member K of the box to be produced. The scoring 41 defines the flange 42 formed between the adjacent parallel ed e43 of the portion 32 and the scoring 4 The distance between the scorings 39 and 40 is preferably equal to the distance between the scoring 41 and edge 43, and forms the anchoring portion 45, and the width of each of the flanges 33 and 34 is also preferably equal to the distance between the scorings 39 "and 40. The portion formed between the scoring 39 and the adjacent parallel free edge 44 of the portion 32 is preferably extensive in area and forms the display board G of the box when assembled for display. \ Inthe embodiment shown in Fig. 9, the one-piece blank is illustrated, which com- 20 prises essentially two portions A and B substantially identical with the blanks A and B of the embodimentilliistrated in Figs. 1 to 8 inclusive: Practically theonly difference between the'two embodiments is that '25 instead oflprovidingan anchoring flange 28, such as'illustrated in Fig. 4, the wall member F of the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 9 which corresponds to the'wall menu ber F of the blank A of Fig. 4, is integral with a lateral extension ofthe portion 45 of the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 9, which corresponds to the portion 45 of the blank B of Fig. 5. In the embodiment illus trated in Fig. 9 the portion 45 is secured 85 to the wall member 0, similar to the manner in which the portion 45 is secured to the wall member C of the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 8.- The remaining portions of the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 9 40 are substantially identical with corresponding portions of the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to 8 inclusive, and therefore with- -material, eomprising'two main portions secured to one another, a three walled portion out describing the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 9 in detail, the various parts: therein corresponding to parts of the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 to -8 inclusive, are de-- signated with corresponding reference cha1"-' actors that have theprime exponents, thus where aportion of Figsrl to Sinclusive would bearthe reference character D, a cor-' responding portion of 'Fig. 9 would hear the reference character D.
It is obvious that various changesiand modifications may be made to thedetails of construction without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
I claim i 1. A collapsible box composed of foldable" material, comprising two main-portions secured to one another; a three walled portion secured to one of the main-portions and 1 forming with a part of such main-portion a four walled inclosure; a floor-member on one of said main-portions; flanges secured to said floor-member and cooperating with said inclosure to anchor the floor-member in 'place adjacent to said inclosure; an inner cover, and when folded in the other position,
forming an inclined supporting baseportion for display purposes. j

A' collapsible."box composed of foldable material, comprising two main-portions secured to one another a three walled portion secured to one of the 'main portions' and forming with a part of such 'nain-portion a four walled inclosurej a ffioor-inember on one of said main-portions{flanges secured to'said floor-member and cooperating with said inclosure to anchor the floor-member in. place adjacent to said inclosure; a covermember on the other of said main-portions; 35 and a flange on saidcover-member cooperating' with the inclosure and one of the flanges of said floor-member to anchor said cover-member in box forming position, and y when in the rever e position in combination with the cover portion forming an inclined base-support.

A collapsible box composed of foldable material, comprising two main-portions secured to one another; a three walled portion secured to one of the main-portions and forming with a part of s'uch'main-portion a four walled inclosurepa floor-member on the inner of said main-portions; flanges secured to said floor-member and cooperating with said inclosureto anchor the floor-member in place adjacent to said inclosure; and a cover and display board on one of said -main-portions extending upward from the box-formed by the inclosure a'nd'floor mem- 1 5 ber.

A collapsible box composed of foldable a four walled inclosure; a floor-member on one of saidmain portions; flanges secured to said floor-member and cooperat ng with said inclosure to anchor the floor-member in :place ad acent to said lnclosure; a combined :cover and display-board on one of said mainportions extending upward fromth'e box formed by the inclosure and floor-member;
.and an auxiliary cover on the other of said main-portions adapted to be folded over-and anchorthe display board over the inclosure when it is desired to close the box formed by the in closure and floor-member, and when folded in the reverse direction to form an inclined base-support'for display purposes;

A collapsible box composed of foldable material, comprising twomain-portions secured to one another; a three walled portion secured to one of the main-portions and forming with a part of such main-portion a four walled inclosure; a floor-member on one of said main-portions; flanges secured to said floor-member and coiiperating with said inclosure to anchor the floor-member in place adjacent to said inclosure; a combined cover and display-board on one of said main-portions extending upward from the box formed by the inclosure and floor:
member; a combined auxiliary cover-member and base-support on the other of said main-portions, and a flange on said auxiliary cover-member cooperating with the inclosure and one of the flanges of said floormember either to anchor said auxiliary cover member in box closing position, or when in the reverse position in combination with the cover portion forming aninclined base support for purposes of display, sup-.
porting the box in the display position.

A collapsible box composed of foldable material, comprising two main-portions secured to one another, a three walled portion secured to one of the main-portions and formlng with a part of such main portlon a four walled mclosure; aifloor-member on one of said main-portions; flanges secured to said floor member and cooperating Wlilllthat it may be swung into opposite position either to support the box in display position, or into position for closing and covering the box.
A collapsible box composed of sheet material adapted to be folded into a substantially rectangular box having a shiftable combined box supporting base and cover, the shiftable base and cover being foldable, and securedto the member forming the rectangular box, and adapted to be folded over in one direction, to close the rectangular box, and when folded in the other, forming a base for supporting the box in an inclined display position, such combined base and cover having formed integral therewith any end flange or member for securing the same in either the covering or the supporting position. p

of the main-portions comprisingj a boxforming portion havin a display ard extending upward there om; the other main portion comprising a display-board supporting portion extending'upward in the rear of the display board and a foldable combined cover and base support member; and means on said foldable cover and base-support member for adjustably anchorin" the same to the box in supporting position atone time, and to form a cover over said box to close the same at another time.
14. A collapsible box comprising two main-portions secured to..one another, one
member, having anchoring flanges on three sides and alike flange'on the fourth side in of the main-portions comprising a floorcentral or axial alinement vvith a three Wallvmember extending from the end of said fourth flange; a Wall-member anchoring flange at the free end of said flanged Wallmember; the other main-portion comprising an anchoring portion adapted to be secured to the fourth flange of said first main-portion; and an interchangeable reversible member, the Wall member anchoring flange being secured between such anchoring portion and the fourth flange of the first mainportion andthe interchangeable reversible member being adaptedat one time to form a base supportinganember for the collapsible box, and at another time to form the cover for the same. r 7

A collapsible box comprising two main portions secured to one another, one of the main-portions comprising a floormember, having anchoring flanges on three sides and a like flange on the fourth side in central axial alinement With a three wallmember extending from the end of said fourth flange; a Wall-member anchoring flange at the free end of said flange Wallmember, the other main-pertion comprising an anchoring portion adapted to be secured to the fourth-flange of said first main portion, and an interchangeable member, the Wall member anchoring flange being secured between such anchoring portion and the fourth flange of said first main-portion, the floor member anchoring flanges cooperating with said three Wall member to anchor the floor-member in position; and an interchangeable reversible member anchoring,
floor-member anchoring flanges and one ofthe wall members, at one time to anchor the interchangeable reversible member in box supporting position and at another time to anchor the same in box-closing position.

A collapsible box comprising tWo main-portions secured to one another, one of the main-portions comprising a floor member, having anchoring-flanges on three sides of the same and alike flange on the fourth side in central axial alinement With a three Wall-member extending from the end of said fourth-flange, a Wall-member the other main portion comprising an anchoring-portion adapted to be secured to the fourth flange of said first main-portion; and an interchangeable reversible member, the Wall-member anchoring flange being secured between such anchoring 7 portion and the fourth flange, the floor member anchoring flanges cooperating With said three Wall member to anchor the floor-member in position; and the interchangeable reversible member being foldable at one point to adjustably support for display purposes at any desired tilt, the same point in a reverse direction to close and cover the box.
