Description

WILLIAM c. T. DAVIDSON.
Improvement in Spring Bed Bottoms..
No. 123,335. Patented Feb. 6I '1372.
ATENT FFICE.
WILLIAM UO. T. DAVIDSON, OF HANNIBAL, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN SFlRING BED-BVOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,335, dated February 6, 1872.
Be it known that I, WM. O. T. DAVTDSON, of the city of Hannibal, county of Marion and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and accurate description of the same, reference being' had to the annexed drawin g' makin g a part thereof.
My invention relates to that class of bed-bottoms resting upon levers through the medium of springs and intermediate bearin ,g1g-rests7 as hereafter described.
The drawing represents the bed-bottom complete; also sectional views.
A reference to the drawing and to the following description will enable the skilled mechanic to construct, put the sanie together in the bedstead-frame, and to manufacture the bed.
u. is a metallic shoe, whose ends rests upon the center of slats b b. c c are metallic bearingrests, fastened at their broadest extremities to the slats b b at intermediate points between the finger and their ends. e is an elastic loop or ring hung; upon the metallic finger a. ff are short levers. The smallest end of one is inserted into the socket-end of the metallic sleeve g. The lon g end of the said sleeve is then inserted through the elastic ring e. The small end of the other lever j' is then placed in the loop e and permitted to drop into the hollow of the sleeve, thus forming a continuous lever. gis a metallic sleeve for receiving the small ends of the levers ff, whose uses have been explained above. The slotted ends of the bearing-rests c c are then permitted to drop upon the levers j' f at or near their centers. The
thus completed section is then placed in position by resting the slotted fulcrum-ends of the levers j' f upon the transverse bars h h, and are secured thereto in a series by means of the flanged metallic pins 'i t fi, &c. A sufficient number of these sections placed upon the said transverse bars (due allowance being made to allow a space between them about equal to the space between the double slats)'as will ll the frame of the bedstead, forms the complete bedbottom.
The transverse bars are secured to the side rails ofthe bedstead by means of the metallic connecting-straps jjjj, as follows: The short ends of said straps are fastened to the bottom of the ends ofthe bars, and the long` ends are hung' upon hanged metallic pins inserted into the side rails of the bedstead-frame at or near their ends, in such amanner that the bars may be readilyT removed by the hand of the operator.
Thesebars, connected in the manner above described, enable the bed-bottom to be placed in any size or class of bedstead without trouble.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The application and use of a single elastic loop or ring, in combination with the metallic sleeve, for the purposes set forth, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the double slats in series by the use of transverse bars with slotheaded pins, the connecting-straps jj, the :mew tallic shoe a, the bearing-rests c, and the metallic sleeve g, for the purposes set forth, and substantially as described.
- WM. C. T. DAVIDSON.
