MICHAEL PERRETEN, 0F ALLIANCE, OHIO.
RECORDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 3, 1917.
Original application filed April 13, 1916, Serial No. 90,953. Divided and this application filed December 4, 1916. Serial No. 135,032.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL PERBETEN, a citizen of Switzerland, residing at Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Recorders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive type of recorder by whose use an accurate record of the amounts deposited in a money drawer or the like may be kept, the present application being drawn to part of the structure eliminated from my U. S. application Serial No. 90,953, filed April 13, 1916.
With the foregoing general object in view, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and unique combinations of parts to be hereinafter fully described and claimed, the descriptive matter being supplemented by the accompanying drawings which constitute a part of this ap lication, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a case in which the improved recorder is located;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view;
Fig. 3 is a detail vertical section on the plane of the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the plane indicated by the line 4-4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a vertical section on the plane incated substantially by the broken line 55 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings above briefly described, the numeral 1 has reference to a suitable case in which is located a money drawer 2 and another drawer 3 in which the recording device is carried, it being intended that whenever an amount is deposited in the drawer 2, the clerk will place his name and the amount on the recording strip 4 as indicated in Fig. 2.
A flat horizontal sheet metal plate 5 is located in the upper portion of the drawer 3 and at its rear end is pivotally mounted upon a horizontal rod 6 carried by the sides of said drawer, the intermediate portlon of said plate being bent upwardly at 7 and then continued horizontally at 8, the front portion of the part 8 being directed downwardly at 9 and then forwardly at 10 and having a suitable handle 11 pro eot1ng through a vertical slot 12 in the front of the drawer .3. The portions 7, 8, and 9 of the plate 5 are received in an opening 13 in the top of the casing 1 and are held in this posi tion by a coiled spring or the like as shown at 14 in Figs. 1 and 5.
The horizontal front portion 8 of the plate 5 is stamped downwardly at suitable locations to form'a pair of transverse slots 15 through which the strip 4 passes, and curved shoes 16 which engage said strip as shown clearly in Fig. 5, the portion of the plate between the two slots constituting a platen 17 upon which the strip 4 rests so as to permit it to be easily written upon, said strip being divided into columns for containing the clerks name and the amount,
' while a card 18 is provided to identify the uses of the several columns.
The strip 4 is adapted to be wound from a rear reel 19 onto a front reel 20, both of these reels being detachably mounted in appropriate bearings 21 carried by the sides of the drawer 3. For turning the reel 20, one end thereof is provided with a gear ring 22 meshing with a pinion 23 on a shaft 24 which extends through the front of the drawer 3 and is provided with a suitable operating knob 25, an appropriate spring catch 26 being employed for preventing retrograde movement of said shaft 24 as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.
By constructing the improved recorder in the manner above described it may be easily and inexpensively manufactured and marketed, yet will be a highly efficient device, particular emphasis being laid upon the fact that the drawer is held in closed position until the handle 11 is depressed against the tension of the spring 14. When this is done, however, the parts 7, 8, and 9 move from the opening 13 and the drawer may be withdrawn from the casing for removing one strip 4 and applying another.
The construction shown and described constitutes the preferred form of the recorder on account of its advantages, but it is to be understood that within the scope of the invention as claimed numerous changes may be made.
I claim:
1. In a recorder, the combination of a case having in its top an opening, a drawer slidable into said case, a depressible platen carried by said drawer and received normally in said opening to prevent withdrawal of the drawer, and means in said drawer for supplying a recording strip to said platen.
2. In a recorder, the combination of a case having in its top an opening, a drawer slidable into said case, a depressible platen mounted pivotally .in the drawer and re ceived normally in the aforesaid opening to prevent withdrawal of said drawer, and means in the drawer for suplying a recording strip to the platen.
3. In a recorder, the combination of a case having in its top an opening, a drawer slidable into said case, a depressible platen mounted pivotally in the drawer and received normally in the aforesaid opening to prevent withdrawal of said drawer, a handle on the front end of the platen extending through a vertical slot in the front end of the drawer whereby said platen may be depressed, a spring for normally holding said platen in its uppermost position, and means in the drawer for supplying a recordingstrip to the platen.
copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
4. In a recorder, the combination of a case having in its top an opening, a drawer slidable into said case, a plate pivotally mounted at its rear end in the upper portion of the drawer, the front portion of said plate being bent upwardly into the opening, extended horizontally to the front edge of the latter and being then bent downwardly, an operating handle for said downwardly bent portion projecting through a vertical slot in the front end of the drawer, the horizontally extending portion of the plate having a pair of transverse slots and constituting a platen between said slots, means in the drawer for supplying a recording strip to said platen, and a spring for normally preventing downward movement of the plate. f
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MICHAEL PERRETEN.
