IMPROVEMENT IN UPl'llGHT-PIANO FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,212, dated January 30, 1872.
Speeication describing certain Improvements in Metallic Frames ior Upright Pianos, invented by J UsTIN WHITNEY, oi.' Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts.
The invention will first be fullyY described and then clearly pointed ont in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a front View ofthe frame. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of Fig. l on the line x it'. Fig. 3 is a herizontal section of Fig. l taken on the line y y. Fig. 4 is a cross-section oi' one ofthe trusses taken on the line z 2, Fig. l.

A is the frame, which stands upright, as seen inthe drawing, and forms the back, which supports the strings of the instrnn'ient. the strings being drawn across it over the bridge and soninlingboard. The sides .B B and bottom C ofthe frame are made in double angleiron form, and the trusses D are of iron in the form of double Ts in cross-section, as seen in the drawing. The top E is of irregular form, the front portion F being the bridge, over which the strings pass.
Like some other parts of pianos-the legs, for instance, for square or horizontal pianosthese frames are made for the trade7 and sold as an article of commerce, the forni or size ot' the frames being varied to snit dii'i'erent piano-manutacturers.
Having thus described myinventi on, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an article of manufacture, an upright iron frame, A, made in one piece by casting the sides B, bottom C, trusses D, top E, and bridge F in the form shown and described.
