Llpresent invention relates to means for seeming-together the two parts'of a trunk, aridnioreparticularly to such means as will atitjn'emovement lock the trunk together at ntiiire than one point.

e` lhe 'fp uijpose of my invention is to prov de 'improved locking means of the characteiitdescribeil,iy and furthermore, to provide means that are simple in construction, posit'riefi'r'iaetion andnot likely to get out of order.y y l A'other'bbject of this invention is to provide a device of the character described, having an improved operating meanstending to greater efficiency of the device.

A still further object of my invention is to provide means that will not only. securely lock together the members of the trunk `when brought together, but which is also adapted to assist in the final closing together of the members of the trunk; and moreover, to provide a device wherein this double action is secur'ed without additional members and without requiring any additional or dierent movements of the parts by the perf son using` the trunk. v

The arrangement of the said parts is' such that when the rod 9 is moved in one direction as to upper position upon the drawings the hooks 11 will be free from the eye straps 8, allowing the trunk to vbe closed or opened as desired, but upon the rod bei-ng moved in the other direction as downward upon the drawings the hooks 11, assuming the trunk to be closed or substantially closed, will engage or enter the eyes of the eye straps 8 and thus in an obvious manner v,prevent the two members of the trunk from being drawn apart as long as the rod is in that position. l

Preferably also the hooks 11 will have a eamming engagement with the strap eyes 8 as the rod 11 is moving from unlocked to locked position so that downward movement of the rod 9 not only causes the hooks 11 to enter the'eyes 8 but the edges of the hooks facing toward the rod 9 will have acamming or wedging action upon. the ooperating surface of the eyes and thereby with great force lao . the

trunk will be drawn toward each other to final closed position. This camming action 1s of great importance in evenly closing a trunk and locking it, as it enables one personA readily to bring the trunk together convenientljr along its meeting edges. Furthermore by having the hooks 11 and the eyes of eye stra s 8 so proportioned to each other that ooks fit fairly closely in the eyes, it will be` obvious that the outer edges of the hooks 11 will have acamming action upon the inner edge of the eyes, viz.; that part of the eyes farthest from the locking rod 9,

when the locking rod and its attached hooks are being moved` to unlocked position 0r yraised as shown in the drawing and that this camlning action will thus operate to force the edges of the two paris of the trunk' slightly away from each other and so make complete opening of the trunk by the hands said axle 14 without the'trunk there is secured an arm 15. This arm terminates in a lock 16 adapted to be brou ht into engagement with and lockwith t e usual leye or hasp member upon a plate 17 upon the trunk member 6 and located opposite to the axle l 14 in the Way of an ordinary trunk lock. Preferably also the arm 15 will be hinged at 15 to the portion 15b of the arm2 which is connected to axle 14 as suggested 1n Fig. 1.-
