CHARLES C. SHELDON, OF RANDOLPH, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTH ES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,051, dated January 23, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Glothes-Driers, invented by CHARLES C. SHELDON, of Randolph,Oatta-raugus county, New York.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the arms horizontal; Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the arms hooked up; Fig. 3 is a top view, illustrating the swing of the arms; and Fig. 4 is a transverse section of one ofthe arms.
This invention relates to a clothes-drier consisting of a main post, to which are jointed any desired number of radial swinging arms, which are connected, in two or more vertical series, with side standards that are articulated to the outer ends of said arms the inner ends of the same being also articulated to the eyes that connect them with the main post, so that the outer ends of the arms can be elevated, and thus carry the standards in close to the main post when it is desired.
Referring to the drawing, a is the main post aforesaid, the same being stepped in a foot, I), and having attached to its top a slotted ring, a. The radial arms d, at their inner extremities, are jointed to eyes 6, that sit loosely in grooves in the main post, so that the arms 01 may be swung horizontally in order to place them in any desired positi0nfor instance, all within an arc of ninety degrees-the main post occupying the corner of a room. The standards f at the outer ends of the vertical sets of arms d are also jointed to them, so that said standards, by raising the outer ends of the arms, can be swung upward and inward close to the main post, still preserving their perpendicularity, and thus enabling the apparatus to be closely packed. The standards f are furnished with hooks g, by connecting which with'the slotted disk 0 the standards are held in the position last described. The standards are also provided with casters, so that they can be moved laterally without lifting them from the floor. As shown in Fig. 4, the arms d are each constructed with a bead, h, along its up per edge, and recesses i along each side beneath the bead. This construction causes the f, disk 0, and hooks 9, combined as specified.
