PATENT OFFICE.
HERMANN FRITSCHE, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAFETY WATCH-POCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,942, dated January 23, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Safety-Pocket, invented by HERMANN FRITscHE, of Newark, in the county oi Essex and State of New Jersey.
Figure l represents a face view of the iinproved safety-pocket. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line C C, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is Aa longitudinal section of the pocket on the line K K, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line C K, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a detail top view of the lock.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to produce a safety watch-pocket which will be entirely reliable and prevent the fraudulent abstraction of the watch. The invention will first be fully described and then clearly pointed out in the claim.
A A in the drawing represent a pocket made of leather or other fabric of suitable size and shape. It is closed on all sides except on top, where it has a swinging Hap, a, which can be opened and closed. The edge ofthe Hap a is lined with wire, b, which forms a projecting loop, d, in the middle. This loop7 catchingover a pin, e, that projects through the wire lining f ofthe pocket proper, serves to hold the ap closed. The pin e projects directly from the end of a spring, g, which is fastened to the under side of the wire f, as shown in Fig. 3. A knob, h, also projects through the lining f, rests with its lower end on the spring g, and wi1l,when pressed upon, carry the pin e down out ofthe loop d and open the iiap. When it is desired to guard against even this mode of openin g the pocket a slide, t', can be moved by a projecting knob, j, and tted with its end into a notch of the knob h. The latter can then no longer be depressed, and the pocket consequently not opened until the slide has been withdrawn from the knob h. The pocket A is provided with two wings, B B, which are formed of V-shaped wires, l, inclosed in leather or fabric m. The wires l have prongs n at their outer parts, which, as they are held out by the spring of the wires Z, will enter the fabric of. the vest pocket into which the pocket A has been put. The inner ends of the wires t bear against the watch, as indicated in Fig. 3. While the watch is in the pocket A this pocket A cannot be removed from the vest-pocket, since the wires l cannot be contracted to clear the prongs u from the vest.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the pin e, spring g, knob h, and slide t' with the watch-pocket and with the loop d on the jaw a,.as set forth.
2. The wires l l, 'bearing against the watch and carrying the prongs n, to constitute a means for preventing the removal of the safetypocket, as set forth.
