To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. RoMAoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Freedom, county of Beaver, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Swings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hangers for swings and has for its object to provide a device of such class, in a manner as hereinafter set forth having a hanger member oscillating on a horizontal aXis and further having a suspension hook pivoting on said hanger member in a direction at right angles with respect to the direction of movement of the member, under conditions allowing one to swing in directions at right'angles.

Further objects of the invention are to -provide a hanger for swings, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, including a hanger member provided with a horizontally dis posed shaft and to further provide means to permit of the horizontal shaft to move in lubricant to prevent any binding action when swinging.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hanger for swings, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, including a hanger member having a horizontally disposed oscillatory shaft and further including a pivoted suspension hook with the pivot of the hook disposed at right angles with respect to the shaft, said hanger member further including means whereby the position of the pivot of the suspension hook can be ad justed.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a hanger for swings which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, noiseless in operation, efficient in its use, readily set up and comparatively inexpensive.

iVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawings in detail 1 denotes a casing which is rectangular in plan, open at its top and having a convex bottom 2. Each side wall 3 of the casing 1 has a laterally extending arm 4, provided with openings 5, for the passage of securing devices to connect the casing 1 to a support. Each of the side walls 3 is furthermore pro vided with a segment-shaped slot 6, having the top edge thereof formed with rounded notches 7 and 7 to facilitate the positioning of the hanger member to be presently referred to.

The upper face of the bottom 8 of the casing 1 has formed integral therewith and centrally thereof a semi-cylindrical bearing 9 and each of the side walls 3, has its inner face provided with an enlargement 10, disposed centrally with respect thereto, and having a V-shaped recess 11 formed with a rounded bottom 12, the latter being in alinement with the bearing 9.

Associated with the casing 1 is a hanger member consisting of a frame formed of a top bar 13, side bar 1 1, and bottom bar 15 and a side bar 16. The bars 13, 14 and 15 are formed integral with each other and the free ends of the bars 13, 15 are formed with tenons 17 and 17 The bar 16 has openings or socketslS to receive the tenons 17 and 17 and securing devices 19, 20, are employed for connecting the bar 16 to the bars 13, 15. The bar 13 has depending therefrom a pair of spaced angle rods 21 which carry at their lower ends a shaft or pivot 22, the latter being seated against the bearing 9 and against the rounded bottoms 12 of the recesses 11.

The shaft or pivot 22 is adapted to oscillate upon the bearings formed by the rounded bottoms 12 of the recesses 11 and upon the bearing 9 and said shaft or pivot 22 is maintained in position by wedge shaped blocks 23 mounted in the recesses 11 and secured in position by the hold-fast devices 24 and these latter are movable as well as the blocks 23 so that when desired the shaft 22 can be removed from the casin 1.

'lhe casing 1 provides a reservoir for a suitable lubricant and when the hanger .member is arranged whereby the shaft 22 is seated on its bearings, the bar 13 extends through the slots 6 and to prevent said bar riding upon the bottom edge of said slots it is contracted at each end as indicated at 25.

The bar 15 is formed in twosections 26, 27, and the top edge of each of said sections is provided with teeth 28 which are disposed at right angles with respect to the shaft 22. Extending up between the sections 26, 27,-of thebar is the shank 29 of a suspension book 30 and said shank at its upper end has a pair of enlargements 31, 32, which are semi-circular in contour and provided with teeth 33 which engage in the teeth 28. The teeth 28 and 33 provide adjustable pivots for the suspension hook and permit the adjustment of the suspension hook with respect to the bar 15 to enable the pivot for the hook to be positioned at different points.

The pivot for the suspension hook is disposed at right angles with respect to the shaft 22 under such conditions that the suspension hook can oscillate in a direction at right angles with respect to the direction of the movement of the shaft 22.

What I claim is l. A hanger for swings comprising a casing having slotted sides provided with bearings and further having the upper face of its bottom formed with a bearing, a

hanger member including a frame extending through the slotted sides and depending from said casing and further including a shaft mounted upon said bearings, means for maintaining the shaft upon the bearings, and a suspension hook carried by said frame.

2. A hanger for swings comprising a casing having slotted sides provided with bearings and further having the upper face of its bottom formed with a bearing, a hanger member including a frame extending through the slotted sides and depending from said casing and further including a horizontally disposed shaft depending from the top of the frame and extending into said casing and mounted upon said bearings, and a pivoted suspension hook depending from the bottom of the said frame and arranged eXteriorly of said casing.

3. A hanger for swings comprising a casing having slotted sides and bearings arranged therein, a hanger member including a frame having the top bar thereof extending through said slotted sides of the casing, the sides and bottom of said frame being arranged eXteriorly of the casing, a shaft connected with the top of the frame and arranged within'said casing and seated upon the bearings, and means for maintaining the shaft upon the bearings, and a suspension hook depending from the bottom of the frame.
