Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed January 20, 1916. Serial No. 73,161.
T 0 all whom may concern:
Be it known that We, CARLI. A. Rnmnn and Baannox llnxninons, citizens' of the U ited States, and residents of New* York, in the countyoii New York and State ot' New Yorl ,'lia\'e invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Cut-Links, ot' which the following is afspeciticaton.
Our invention relates to culi' links, and the main objeetthereoitl is to provide such articles ot' wear which will permit pulling the cutl's ot' a shirt up on the arms to or above the elbows without the` necessity for detaching the links from the cutis as is necessary with the conventional links, and which, in any adjusted positions ot' the cuffs on the arms, tensionally hold the eutls thereat.
Our invention is fully described in the following; specification, o't which the accompanying,- drawings 'forni a part, in which like characters refer to like parts in each of the W'iews, and in which z- Our invention comprises a `button head in pivotal connection with an eye i on a cylinder S open at the end opposite said eye i though inwardly flanged as shown at 9. a
button head 1.0 in pivotal connection with an eye 1l on a bolt 12 telescoped within the cylinder 8 and provided with a head 13011 the end within said cylinder and against which head 13 a coil spring llt bears, r the opposite end of said spring bearing against- `a Washer shaped plate 15 held within the cylinder 8 by the flange 9, said spring normally holding.r the head-13 of the rod or bolt 1Q against the closed end o't' said cylinder.
When the button heads and 1() are forceably drawn apart` as by pullingl the shirt cutl's upwardly on the arm of a wearer. the spi-ing 14 is 'collapsed in a degree corresponding' to the separation ot the button heads but constantly resisting such separation, with the result that the shirt cuffs are 'tensionally held in any adjusted position.
the spring' being` made ol sullicieut strength to accomplish this result though not of sntlicient strength to produce uncomfortable pressure on the arm ofthe wearer.
ll'hile we are aware that button heads have been linked together byineans of an elastic element` our invention reveals a novel feature thereovcr by reason of the fact that the separation of the button heads is limited, our springl being.;l compressed and not extended in the separation ot' the button heads as in the devices otl this class now known to us` wherebyY we avoid the` fault ot' the old iorms that the extensible springeA eventually is permanently elongated 'and the links made useless.
The c vliinler S will be made of small diameter though ot' sullicient strength to meet possible strains. and we may provide button heads ol various designs and construct the links oi' any desired materials` the invention being' based upon the spring resisted separation ol thel button heads in a limited degree without injury to any part ot' the links.
llaving fully described our invention. what wc claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. A entf link` comprising a cylinder open at one end. a rod telescoped therein and provided with a head` a coil spring: around saidl rod one end ot' which bears against said l aid and the other end ot which hears against the cylinder at its open end. a button head car- -ried by said c vlinder at its closed end. and
a button head carried b v said rod at its outer end. A
2. A cull" link comprising a cylinder having' an eye at one end` a button head in pivotal connection with said eye.- a rod extendinginto the cylinde` and having a head at the end within the c vlinder and an eye at the end outside ot' said cylinder7 a button a A t 1.326378 head in pivotal connection .with the eye of name/s tqthis specification in the presenceof the rod, and a coil spring surrounding the two subscribing Witnessesz rod in the cylinder and having one end en- CAR-LL A. RIEMER. lgaging the head of the rod and its other BRANDON HENDRICKS.. 5 end engagin the end 'of the cylinderh Witnesses: through Whc therod extends. f 'GEQRGE H. EMsLm,
^ Intestimony whereof we havesigned our ,i PHIL@ D. ROLLHUH.
