To all cl2/1.0m t may concern Be it known that I, IDA BROWN, acitizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset- Stay Tips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to auxiliary tips for attachment to corset or dress stays, and the primary object is to provide a tip of this nature which may be applied to the end of a corset or dress stay when the same wears through the cloth or fabric with which it is covered, for recovering the end of the stay and preventing the same from gouging the clothes or the wearer of the corset or dress to which the stay is attached.

Another object of this invention is to attach to a strip of fabric a plurality of metallic guards or tips which have transversely extending ears formed at their lower ends through which eyes are punched for attaching the tip to the corset or dress to which the stay is attached. 1

Another object of this invention is the provision of a metallic strip which has its upper marginal end and the upper ends of its sides bent inwardly for forming a socket for receiving the protruding end of the stay.

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view this invention consists in such novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and claimed.

In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters designate like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved corset stay tips showing a plurality of them attached to a strip, for marketing.

Fig. 2 is a view showing the rear side of a fragment of a corset stay and corset to which the improved tip has been applied.

is clearly shown at 3 to form sockets 4 for receiving the ends of corset or dress stays. The main body portion 5 of the tips 2 have ears 6 and 7 projecting laterally from the sides of their lower ends, which ears are provided with openings in which are seated eyes or sleeve rivets 8 for securing the tips 2 to the fabric strip 1. The eyes or sleeve rivets 8 are crimped for securing the tips 2 to the fabric strip 1.

In using the tips, the strip of fabric is cut upon the dotted line shown at 10 in Fig. 1 of the Idrawings for applying the tip to the end of a corset or dress stay. When the stay indicated by the numeral 12 in the drawings, wears through the fabric at the end of the stay, and it is desired to cover the same to form a protection for garments which are adjacent to the corset or dress stays or the fabric of which the corset or dress is formed is cut away from the end of the stay which has worn through and the stay end is inserted in the socket 4 as is clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. After the stay end has been inserted in the socket 4, the tip 2 is securely stitched to the fabric 14 of which the corset or dress is formed by stitching through the eyes 8. The strip of fabric which is left attached to the body 5 of the tip 2, when the strip is cut as indicated on the dotted line in Fig. 3 of the drawings, is then folded over for lying in abutting engagement with the outer face of the body portionl 5 of the tip 2, and bent over the end of the bent end 3 of the tip and downwardly upon the outside of the piece of fabric 15 which is positioned upon the outer side of the stay 12. The end 16 of the piece of fabric 1 is then securely stitched by a whip stitch to the piece of fabric 15, and the side or edges of the strip of fabric is also securely stitched to the fabric piece 15 of the dress or corset as is clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. By folding the piece of the strip of fabric 1 over the end of the tip 2 and firmly stitching the 'same lto the 'fabric of which the corset or dress is formed, a neat appearing protective strip is mounted Jn-pon the end of the stay for insuring against the gouging of other garments With which the v'end of thev stay might contact.
