Description

Improvement in Siphon Bottles.
No. 122,403] I Pa te nted l an 2,1812.
THOMAS PIMEB, OF NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT.-
IMPROVEMENT IN SlPHCiN-BOTTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,403, dated January 2, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improve ments in. Siphon-Bottles'for Aerated W'aters, invented by THOMAS PIMER, of New London, in the county-of New London and State of Connecticut.
The nature of my invention consists in constructing the ordinary siphon-bottles with an extra neck, through which the bottle is filled with the liquid before the latter is charged with gas, which is forced in through the siphon after the extra neck has been hermetically sealed.
The siphon-bottles now in common use are filled from the fountain through the siphon with liquid already charged with gas, and it becomes necessary in filling to let some of the gas es I cape from the bottle to permit the entrance of the liquid, thereby reducing the pressure he- 10w what it should be. I v
The object sought and obtained by my improvement is the prevention of the loss of gas 1- in filling siphon-bottles with aerated waters.
The drawing represents an elevation of my improved siphon-bottle, showing that portion which carries the extra neck in section.
A refers to the bottle, and B to the device called the siphon, which is cast around the usualneck of the bottle in the ordinary way, and otherwise constructed in the wellknown manner. 0 is the extraneck formed on one side of the bottle, extending up to the height it is intended to fill the bottle with liquid. This neck, after the bottle has been filled with the liquid, is hermetically sealed by means of any approved stopper, the one shown, 0, being a cap with an internal screw-thread adapted to threads formed on the exterior of the neck. The liquid can then be charged with gas through the siphon until the desired pressure is attained. By this method of filling siphon-bottles with aerated waters there will be no escape of gas, and the consequent loss of pressure Will be prevented.
I am aware that lamp-bowls, filtering and pouring bottles have been constructed with an extra neck, and do not, therefore, intend to claim broadly a hollow vessel with two necks. What I claim as m y invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A siphon-bottle, A B, constructed with an extra neck, 0, substantially as and for the pur- I pose specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS PIMER.
