Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. MEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee, and State -of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Skein-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is, among other things, ti) provide a skein holder in which the skein supporting arms and table clamping mechanism may be formed of wire, whereby suchholder is comparatively cheap and simple in construction, while it is no less efficient than those holders of more expensive construction.
My invention is further explained by ref erence to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view, and
Fig. 2 is a side view of my device, drawn at right angles to that shown in Fig. 1.
Like parts are referred to by the same reference numerals in both views.
1 represents a table of ordinary construction with which my skein holder is attached by the wire clamping mechanism comprising the upper clamping member 2, lower clamping member 3 and spiral coils 4, 4:. The object of the spiral coils 4:, 1 is to connect the members 2 and 3, while such members 2 and 3 are adapted to more rigidly engage the table 1. One end 5 of the clamping member 2 extends horizontally past said clamping member and is rigidly afiixed to the stationary hub 6, said member 5 being slightly tapered, whereby it is forced into an aperture formed in said hub, thereby holding said hub rigidly in place. The hub 6 is preferably provided at its outer end with an annular collar 7 and near its opposite end with a disk 8, between which the cylindrical bearing 9 is formed for the reception of the coils 10, 10 of the arms 11, 11, 11 are provided with curved loops 12 for the reception of the skein 13, and said arms are adated to be brought together in a folded position, indicated. by dotted lines 14:, both when the same is packed and shipped and when placing the Copies of this -patent may skein 13 thereon. WVhen the skein 13 has been placed in the loops 12 said arms are brought at right angles to each other, as indicated in Fig. 1, whereby said skein is securely retained in place preparatory to winding the same.
The coils 10, 10 are loosely fitted to the hub 6, whereby the arms 11, 11 are free to revolve around said hub, while said coils serve to simultaneously support said arms from the hub between the bearings 7 and 8. The disk 8 is securely retained on said hub 6 by friction or in any convenient manner, and it prevents said hub, when formed of wood, from splitting as the tapered end 5 of the wire 2 is driven therein.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by-Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the described class, the combination of a plurality of radial arms formed of wire, provided at their outer ends with skein retaining loops, and at their inner ends with spiral coils adapted to loosely revolve upon a stationary hub, a pair of wire clamping members adapted to removably engage a horizontal member of a support, a hub attached to one of said clamping members, and means for retaining the inner ends of said radial arms in place on said hub.
2. In a device of the described class, the combination of a plurality of radial arms formed of wire, provided at their outer ends with skein retaining loops, and at their inner ends with spiral coils adapted to loosely revolve upon a stationary hub, a pair of wire clamping members adapted to removably engage a horizontal member of a sup-. port, a hub attached to one of said clampingmembers, and a pair of bearings secured to said hub adapted to retain said radial arms in place thereon.
