To all whom z'z may concern:
Be it known that I, Ross BURKHOLDER, a citizen ont' the United States, and a resident of Marshall, in the county of Clark and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Concrete-Culvert Forms, of which the ollowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object to improve the construction of that class of 'forms employed in constructing eulverts to the end that a form may be provided which can be adjusted to various widths and be readily removable after the concrete has rmly set. Further the invention has for an object to provide a concrete form which can be shipped in a knock-down condition, and be readily reassembled.
lith these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally pointed out in the appended claim, it being further understood that changes in the specitic structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the cla-im without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speciiication, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views:
Figure 1 shows a transverse sectional view of a concrete Jform embodying my invention7 disclosing the sheathing in position and the concrete cast about the same.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2, of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the channeled side members.
Fig. 4; is a top view of a Jframe.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of one of the frames.
Fig. 6 shows a set of frames as arranged .in buildin a culvert.
In carrying out the aim of my invention, I employ a plurality of knock-down frames which can be readily assembled and set upon suitable base boards, which after being properly arranged are cased over.
In the drawings, A represents a suitable base upon which the culvert is to be cast. In forming the culvert I employ two base boards 10, 10, which are arranged in parallel spaced relation, and are of a length equal to the length the culvert is to be made.
Set upon these base boards 10, are a plurality of frames, each of which includes two channeled side members connectedby means ot upper and lower spacing bars.
As shown in the drawings, each side member includes an outer bar 11, shown in Fig. 3and two cleats 12 secured to the outer member in parallel spaced relation. The cleats are preferably wider at their lower ends than at their upper ends, as is more clearly shown in Fig. 1. As disclosed, the upper ends c, ot' the outer bars 11 and cleats 12 are curved. These channeled side members are employed in sets of two, each cleat having an upper bolt opening e, and a lower bolt opening 5, arranged to receive the pivot-forming bolts 13 and 141.
Fivotally held to the upper bolts 141 are the upper spacing bars 9, 9. These bars being adjustably secured by means of the bolts ze.
In the drawings three such bolts x, are shown as holding the spacing bars together.
Pivotally held upon the lower bolts 18 are the lower spacing bars 15, 15, which are also secured by means of suitable bolts this construction being clearly shown in Fig. 1.
As disclosed, the bolts 14 are located a certain distance below the upper curved ends c, of the cleats 12, so that a socket is formed above these upper spacing bars 9 within which rest the ends of the arch members 18, 1S. rEhe arch bars 1S have their upper edges 19 curved, so as to form in conjunction with the curved ends c, a continuous arch 4upon which the. -top sheathing or casing 21 is placed, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 1 a frame is shown arranged in its shortest adjustment. In widening the. frame, one of the bolts m, and one of the bolts 2O would be discarded, the arms being then secured by two bolts which would be located within the two outer openings within the arms. The arch members 18 would then also only be held together by means o1' two bolts. In their extended condition, the arches rise, so that at each adjustment, the arch members are a predetermined distance farther away from the upper spacing arms 9. This is lnecessary as the arch must be raised as the side walls are widened.
As shown in Fig. 6, the frames are used in sets any suitable number being employed. From the foregoing it will be seen that I provide aframe of simple construction which can be adjusted to various widths.

A concrete culvert form comprising two side nienibers each including an outer inember, two cleats secured to each outer meinber in parallel spaced relation, the upper ends of said cleats being curved, each cleat being provided with an upper bolt opening and a lower bolt opening, upper pivot bolts within saidupper openings, two upper spacing bars pivotally held upon the bolts within said upper openings, means to adjustably secure said upper spacing bars7 two bolts within said lower openings, two lower spacing, bars pivotally held upon said lower bolts, means to adjustably secure said lower spacing bars, said upper pivot bolts beingY located a suitable distance below the upper ends of said cleats whereby a socket is formed above said upper spacing bars, and two arch members having their upper edges curved and their' ends held within said socket and against said outer bars, as, and in the manner shown. v
