Description

A.C.REED,R.S.& R.L.GREENLER FENCES- No. 194,724. Paiennd Aug.28,1877.
gmm
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT G. REED, RALPH S. GREENLEE, AND ROBERT L. GREENLEE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,724, dated August 28, 1877; application filed July 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that we, ALBERT C. REED, RALPH S. GREENLEE, and ROBERT L. GREEN- LEE, of Chicago, Cook county, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fences, of which the following is a full de scription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying our invention, and Figs. 2 and 3 are details of the same.
()ur invention consists in upper bars connected with suitable posts, to which bars or pickets are secured by means of nails or otherwise, and in the use of holding-hooks of peculiar construction, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
(it represents the iron bars or hands to which the pickets are secured, taking theplace of rails. Each bar is bent over upon itself at each end, as shown at b. c are pickets. They can most conveniently be secured to the bars a by means of wrought nails, which can be clinched, the bars having been first provided with suitable holes to receive the nails. Screws might be used for this purpose, d are the posts. g is a plate, having a hook, h, attached thereto. This hook can be cut from the metal of the plate and bent into proper shape. These plates 9 are to be secured to the posts, upon the inside preferably, and the 'bars are to he slipped in behind the hooks.
This device will be found convenient in cases where the fence, or parts thereof, is to be occasionally moved,-as is the case with movable pens for stock. I
For ordinary purposes the bars a may be an eighth of an inch, or a little more, in thickness and about five-eighths of an inch in width.
Having thus fully described the invention,
what is claimed as new, and desired tobe secured by Letters Patent, is
The metal bars'a, having bent-over ends b, in combination with pickets 0, posts 01, plate g, and hooks h, substantially as set forth.
