AM. PHOTfl-LlT/IDGRAPHIC on M): (usaamvz PRocEss) UNITED STATES THOMAS L. THRASHER, OF PARIS, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-COUPLlNGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,964, dated August 19, 1873; application filed July 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS L. THRASHER, of Paris, in'the county of Lamar and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Plow-Coupling, of which the following is a specification: V
Figure 1 is a front view of the coupling. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention has for its object to furnish an improved coupling for connecting two plows, to enable them to be guided and controlled by one man.
My invention consists in the bent bars strengthened at their bends by extra rods, provided at their lower ends with swiveled clamping-plates and set-screws, and at their upper ends with eyes, slides, and notches to receive the key, as hereinafter more fully described.
a A are two bars, which are bent in theirmiddle parts so that their arms may be at right angles with each other. The v bars A are strengthened at their angles or bends by an extra rod, ad, the ends of which are welded to the said rods A. The bars A a are spread apart, as shown in Fig. 2. By this construction the bars are strengthened at their bends or angles, so that they may be as strong at these points as in any other part. The lower ends of the rods A are swiveled to the centers of the plates B, the end parts of which are bent at right angles to form flanges or win gs to receive between them the plow-beams, I
to which they are secured by set-screws C, which pass through the said flanges and rest against the sides of the said beams. The upper parts of the bars A lie along each other, and upon the end of each part is formed an eye, a, to receive the other part. The adjacent sides of the overlapping upper parts of the bars A are notched to receive a key, D, to 7 look the said bars in any position into which they may be adjusted. The overlapping parts of the bars A are kept from being spread apart by the key D by two slides, E, placed upon the said parts, and which may be slid back and forth, as required.
By this construction the plows may be conveniently adjusted to work at any desired distance apart. This construction also enables either or both the plows to be turned or guided to avoid irregular hills or follow crooked rows, as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The bent bars A, strengthened at their bends by the extra rods 60 provided at their lower ends with swiveled clamping-plates B and setscrews 0, and at their upper ends with the eyes a, slides E, and notches to receive the key D, substantially as herein shown and described.
THOMAS LEANDER TIiltASHER.
