JOHN A. LIFSEY, OF WHITE HOUSE, GEORGIA.
COMBINED PLOW- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 337,069,
STOCK AND. CULTIVATO R.
dated March 2, 1886.
Application filed October 27, 1885. Serial No. 181,078. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Joan A. LIFSEY, a cit-izen of the United States, residing at White House. in the county of Henry and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Plow-Stock and Cultivator, of which -the following is a specification.
My invention relates to plows, the object being to provide a device of this character which shall be simple in its construction, effective in its operation, strong and durable, and one that may be manufactured at a comparatively slight cost.
With these ends in view the invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View ofaplow embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a section on theline a: a; of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section on the liney y, and Fig. 5 is a detail View.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by the same letters of reference.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the plow, which is composed of the beam B, to which are secured the side beams, C C, said beams carrying the teeth or shovels. The beam B is formed with a spear-shaped head, a, and fitting upon the same is a plate, D, formed at its ends with eyes b. Secured to the front ends of the beams C C are plates E, which are formed with hooks c,which engage the eyes I). Secured to the inner side of one or both of the beams C C are auxiliary plates having hooks f, whereby the ends of the beams may be brought closer together by removing the plates E from engagement with the plates on the beam B and engaging the hooksf with said eyes.
F represents bracing-plates secured to the upper faces of the beams C C at their outer ends. The inner ends of these plates are provided with elongated slots, and passi ng through the slots in said plates is a pin, g,which holds the plates in place and allows them to be adjusted to the width or distance between the beams C C when adjusted. Depending from the beams C, C, and B are standards G, of which there may be as many as desired, and connecting the said standards with the beams are braces g, and secured to the said standards are teeth or shovels h.
H represents the handles, which are secured to the beam B near the front end thereof. These handles are connected near their rear ends with the beam B by uprights j. Extending downwardly from the handles H are bars I, which are provided with elongated slots i near their lower ends, and passing through said slots are pins j, projecting from the inner sides of the beams C C. By this arrangement it will be seen thatshould the shovels or teeth of thebeams C C strike an obstruction they will be allowed vertical movement or play to pass the same.
J represents curved plates' secured to the upper sides of the rear ends of the beams C C. The inner ends of these plates are provided with a series of openings, and their inner ends pass through a bracket secured to the rear end of the beam B.
J" represents a pin, which passes through the bracket and plates and holds the latter in position at any desired adjustment.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is- The combination, with thebeam having the spear-shaped head, and the plate D, fitted on said head and having eyes I), of the beams C C, carrying shovels, said beams and having hooks 0, one or more auxiliary plates having hooks f, the plates F, having slots 9, the plates J, adjustably connecting the beams C C at their rear ends, and the handles rigidly secured to beam B and loosely secured to beams C C, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. LIFSEY.
