SAM HOUSTON WALTON, OF BELTON, TEXAS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 417,376, dated December 1'7, 1889.
Application filed July 18, 1889. $erial K0. 317,891. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAM Housro WALTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belton, in the county of Bell and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates'to improvements in plows; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a plan view of my improved plow. Fig. 3 is a section on line 00 w of Fig. 1.
The beam A is of the usual construction, and is provided at its front end with a clevis The handles 0 are to the beam by the brackets D, as shown. Near its front end the beam is provided with a longitudinal series of transverse perforations E, and to re-enforce and strengthen the beam at this point I secure to the sides of the same the plates E which are provided with perforations registering with those in the beam. Near the rear end of the beam I pivotally secure thereto the lateral supportingarms F, between the ends of which I secure the vertical slotted brackets G, as shown. The
plow or cultivator beams H pass between the supporting-arms F, and are secured to the brackets G by means of bolts which pass through the said beams and the slots of the said brackets. The front ends of the beams H are secured to the beam A by the links I,
having their rear ends pivoted to the front ends of the beam H and their front ends fitted on bolts passing through the perforations in the front end of the beam .A.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a plow which is composed of very few parts, and which is so constructed that the beams can be adjusted to run closer together or farther apart, according to the width of the row, and .in which they may also be adjusted so as to cause the shovels to enter the ground to a greater or less depth, as may be desired. The plowbeams are adjusted vertically by securing them at the proper point of the slotted brackets G, and they are adjusted to and away from each other by swinging the supporting-arms F horizontally and engaging the links I over bolts fitting in the proper horizontal openings in the main beam A, as will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. The combination of the beam, the parallel horizontal arms pivoted. to the top and bottom of the beam and projecting beyond the sides of the same, the vertically-slotted brackets secured between the beams at the ends of the same, the cultivator-beams arranged between the upper and lower horizontal arms, and the securing-bolts inserted transversely through the beam and the slots of the brackets, as set forth.
2. The combination of the main beam having a longitudinal series of transverse perforations near its front end, the bolts inserted through said perforations, the horizontal arms pivoted to the beam and projecting beyond the'sides of the same, the vertical brackets secured to the ends of said arms, the cultivator-beams adj ustably secured to said brackets, and the links having their rear ends pivoted to the front ends of the cultivator-beams and their front ends engaged over the transverse bolts at the front end of the main beam, as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAM HOUSTON lVALTO-N.
