To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, NnsBrr'r H. Coss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Stretchers, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to a neck tie stretcher and more Qparticularly to a stretcher which is especially adapted for use in connection with four-in-hand ties.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a necktie stretcher which may be formed from resilient material to render the same expandible and has the sides thereof so shaped and connected, that when the stretcher is contracted and inserted within a four-in-hand tie, the stretcher upon eX- pansion will stretch the portions of the tie which form the knot while the tie was in use and remove the Wrinkles therefrom, thus enabling the tie to retainits original shape. Another object of the invention is to provide a neck tie stretcher which may be formed from resilient material and has a frame, the sides of which are bowed for a portion of their length and connected with each other in such a manner thatthe sides may be moved toward each other to decrease the width of the stretcher so that the same may be inserted in ties which vary in width and upon the sides assuming their normal position the tie will be stretched in a satisfactory manner.

A further object of the invention is to provide a neck tie stretcher having a frame provided with oppositely inclined sides bowed for a portion of their length to provide stretching members and having a stiffening yoke connected with the sides and arranged between the stretching members with the arms of the yoke connected with the stretching members and inter-engaging arms thereon. a

With these and other objects in View, the invention resides in the novel combination and arrangement ofparts, .which will be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

The preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, although no restriction is necessarily made to the precise details of construction therein shown, as changes, alterations, and modifications, within the scope of the claim may be'resorted to when desired. i

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a neck tie stretcher constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the same in eX- panded position.

Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the neck tie stretcher showing the stretching members of the stretcher frame in retracted position.

Fig. 3 is a. horizontal transverse sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, the numerall designates the improved neck tie stretcher which comprises an expansible frame 2 having connected therewith a stiffening yoke 3.

The frame 2 which is formed from a single strand of resilient material 4. such as wire, or the like, comprises sides 5 connected at one end by a portion 6 of the wire 4 which is bent into V-form to lie between the sides 5 and causing the same to incline in opposite directions. p

The other end of the frame 2is closed by bending-inwardly and at right-angles thereto a portion of each side 5 providing arms 7 over-lapping for a portion of their length with each arm terminating at its free end in an eye 8 looselyreceiving the arm 7 adjacent thereto to permit sliding movement of the arms 7 within the eyes 8.

The sides 5 are bowed for the greater portion of their length to provide stretching members 9 and are then folded upon themselves to form the stretching members 9.

The yoke 3 has its arms 11 disposed be tween the stretching members 9 and with the connecting portion 12 of the arms pass ing through the loops 10 and bent into V- form to lie between the arms 11, said connecting portion serving to hold said loops in spaced relation when the stretching members 9 are in retracted position and when the stretcher is in use.

loops 10 arranged between Throughthe above described manner of connecting the arms 11 with the stretching members 9 and arms 7, it will be seen that the arms 7 are prevented from becoming bent and preventing the expansion of the stretcher when in use and also that the loops 13 limit the movement of the stretching members in one direction while the eyes 8 limit the movement of the stretching members in the opposite direction so that the possibility of the stretcher imposing an undue strain upon the stitching in the tie is avoided.

When it is desired to use the stretcher for removing the wrinkles within a four-in-hand tie, the arms 11 of the yoke 3 are grasped between the thumb and fingers and the stretching arms moved to a retracted position by sliding the arms 7 through the eyes 8.

The smaller end of the frame 2 may now be inserted within the end of the tie and the stretcher moved longitudinally of the tie, it being, of course, understood that the V-shaped portion 6 will allow the sides 5 of the frame 2 near the smaller end thereof to move toward each other so that the smaller end of the frame can be positioned within the band of the tie.

When the arms 11 of the yoke 3 are released from between the thumb and fingers, the natural inherent resiliency of the material from which the frame 2 and yoke 3 is formed causes the stretching members 9 to move to an extended position so that the flared portion of the tie will be tightly stretched and the wrinkles removed therefrom.

' When it is desired to remove the stretcher from the tie, the arms 11 are again grasped between the thumb and fingers and the Gopies ofthis patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the stretching members moved to a retracted position at which time the stretcher may be pulled from within the tie which under the stretching influence of the stretcher has as sumed its original shape.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is at once apparent that a neck tie stretcher has been provided which although simple in construction and, therefore, inexpensive of manufacture, is highly efficient in use.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is:

A device of the class described consisting of an eXpansible frame made of a single piece of wire, said wire being bent to pro vide two side portions disposed in an outwardly diverging relation and having an integral medial V-shaped portion pro ecting between said side portions, said side portions being folded upon themselves to provide medial loops, the said side portions being formed with angular arms having rightangularly disposed terminal eyes which receive the arms for slidable movement thereupon and a Wire yoke formed with opposing side portions and a medial V-shaped portion therebetween the ends of which are received in the first mentioned loops, each of said last named side portions being formed with a portion folded over itself providing a loop in which one of said arms is slidably guided and terminating in right-angularly disposed eyes coiled around said first named side portions so that both pairs of said side portions may flex in unison.
